Today Billy Corgan put out an ad in the Chicago Tribune/Red Eye. The ad was called, "A Message to Chicago From Bill Corgan." In the ad he goes on about the release of his solo album and how is heart is in Chicago. He also says, "For a year now I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep. But now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive The Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs. and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again."
I guess his poetry readings didn't go so well. It will be interesting if he can get The Smashing Pumpkins back together.

Am I the only one who could care less about the Smashing Pumpkins? They had a couple of good songs and I actually like Billy Corgan's non-musical work with the Chicago Cubs. I also like some of the other stuff he's produced but still ...

I have trouble to understand this phrase. It should be couldn't care less but for some reason somehow it still makes sense to say care less.

1979? bah!
Siamese Dream is their best album- truly amazing. Afterwards Corgan decided to get cute/full of himself and thus the downward spiral.

Siamese Dream was their best. After Mellon Collie they started dabbling in techno-beats which saw them spiral into mediocrity. Ava Adore and Machina were painful.

I still think Gish was their best. But hey, I remember when I had to special order it because no one had heard of the SP.

Rhino was killer on Gish. I must have played that track for 3 weeks on repeat when I got the album.
So dreamy....so MBV-esque.....

I think they were OK. I'm not a major fan, but I would listen to their stuff and enjoy it.

They are one of my all time favorite bands, this is interesting news! The 'side project' Zwan album was some of my all time favorite Billy work, that is some amazing stuff.

I agree Gish is their best, along with Pisces Iscariot.

Gish was okay, but they were really better live back then. By a lot. I saw them in concert in 91 and they blew me away. I was kinda (very slightly) let down by Gish after that. Maybe a tad too thick, too much distortion, and his singing was a bit raw. But Siamese Dream was just a fantastic studio album.
In fact I'm having a hard time trying to think of another modern rock album that comes close... hmmm..

Yeah, I think it's time for a more benign version:

|

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

They're too old to make good music.
That is all.

Wait. So Corgan is going to re-form The Smashing Pumpkins as a supergroup with the guys from the band Chicago? Wicked.

I actually enjoy listening to Pisces Iscariot now. I still like Siamese Dream, but it's ... I dunno, over-produced. It's almost too perfect. Being a collection of singles, Pisces doesn't have that problem, while still retaining the Pumpkins feel. When I want to listen to the Pumpkins, I'll reach for it first.

Starla is truly an epic beauty. I love that song to death.
I appreciate most of their music. I became a fan shortly after MCIS was released in 1995. On the contrary to most, I believe 'Adore' was their most poignant, least self-satisfying album they've ever created. As for MACHINA/The Machines of God? Some songs are good - but the concept behind it was a complete and total disaster. Billy's ego had blown up right in front of him. Poor guy.

Any word if James and Darcy are back in? I know Billy and Jimmy signed a management agreement last week.
