Hi All,

I am in the market for a new TV, and being not so savvy with the acronym storm that I have encountered in my search, I am left even more clueless than I started . So here I am asking for your opinion.

I have the following four TVs (not in any particular order) in mind (this is not my final choice): (here's the link to the comparison page on pricegrabber.com -
linky

1) Olevia LT37HVE 37" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 1200:1, HDTV) is $1,599.79
2) LN-R328W 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 3000:1, HDTV) is $1,747.12
3) Olevia LT32HV 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 1200:1, HDTV) is $1,280.00
4) Sharp AQUOS LC-32D5U 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 800:1, HDTV) is $1,965.00

Here's what I will be (or what I expect to be) using my new TV:
-Watching selected few TV shows (Family Guy, Scrubs, Daily Show, etc.)
-DVDs
-Hooking up my Mac mini
-Xbox and PS2

So if any of you would like to help, I will really appreciate it. And for doing so, "my mother thanks you, my father thanks, my sister thanks you, and I thank you."

I just read something about some new 3M film on the Aquos that makes the pictures better. Is there any way you can tell if any of these have this?

Also, try epinions.com, they have reviews of just about everything.

Not sure. I'll try to find out about the 3M film and give epinions.com a whirl.

40" Widescreen what? LCD? Plasma? Projection? rear-projection?

I did see some 42" Plasma TVs but their resolution was lower than LCD but the price was somewhat the same, and that got confusing really fast.

Plasma is out, since I have decied that I would like to hook up my mini to the TV occasionally, and I don't want the screen to get burn ins. So far Samsung is looking good, price, size and function wise. Sharp is getting too expensive for the same features and size.

EDIT: Thanks for the link. That really did clear-up some of confusion.

This thread might help:
http://forums.macnn.com/89/macnn-lounge/223497/i-gots-me-new-tv-if/

But there is a twist. The TV I got last August slowly rotted I got horrible customer service from Samsung and In the end I am getting a full credit for the set. In exchange I am getting this set when it comes out next month.
http://www.i4u.com/article3704.html

The KDF-E50A10 (50-inch)

It is an LCD projection which a year ago wasn't that great because of poor black levels. This new set has some new iris in it that vastly improves black levels.

With my and other experience I DO NOT recommend DLP Tvs. Too many moving parts and the sets haven't been around long enough for people to know how long they will last.

Thanks for the link, SWG.

This TV looks awesome; a bit more than what I was expecting to pay. Also I'm a bit cautious about being the first-adpotor of new tech when the $ amount is high.

A bit puzzeled though. How did you get a Sony in exchange for a Samsung?

This is a 3rd gen LCD projection so it isn't that new tech wise.

I contacted Samsung and the store I bought it from and Samsung told the store to credit me the cost of the TV. The store doesn't even carry sony but they are special ordering that set for me.

So far the Samsung Cellphones and TVs I have delt with are total junk. I am not buying anything from that company again.

Glad to hear your opinion. I've been trying to decide what new TV to get, and the Samsung DLP was on the top of my list. You might've just saved me a lot of hassle, thanks.

Trust me, I am not the only one that had very bad experiences with them. They are well known for being flakey and I knew this before I got it. I just thought that it was a small amount of people that had probs. The first day out of the box I had all 3 of 5 common problems with the set.

Samsung is junk.

Okay. So I have narrowed my choice down to the following TVs: (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_c...remove=5797680)
  • FWD-32LX1/S 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, HDTV)
  • KLV-32M1 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, HDTV)
  • AQUOS LC-37G4U 37" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 800:1, HDTV)
  • LC-32GA5U 32" LCD TV (16:9, 1366x768, 800:1, HDTV)

I really like the Sony KLV-32M1 (Consumer Reports rate it as #1 Flat-Panel); but I'm not sure if I can hookup my Mac mini to it using the HDMI (using a converter cable, of course), so I have to look into it a bit more. I also like the FWD-32XL1/S.

The Aquos LC-32GA5U is the runner up with the LC-37G4U as the last options.

What do you guys think?
