Where to donate old cell phones

I have an old cell phone. I think places use this old phones and program them to dial 911 in case of an emergency for people that need them.
Does anyone know where to bring them?
I live in NYC if you happen to live there too.

Look up the Women's Shelters in your area.
I have donated a few phones to a local shelter and they are VERY happy to receive them.

The last phones that we donated were at the Verizon Store. Churches also take donations.
