Where's the Giant Squirrel from the original? They better not leave out the Giant Squirrel.

Here's a colorized screenshot from the original King Kong film.

If Jack Black is in it I am there.

Kinda wierd seeing him in a serious role.

And Naomi Watts is one thirty-something hotty! We need to see more of her, in less clothing.

What? No rabbits with bunny AIDS, no muppet S&M, no filthy walruses? Peter Jackson is going downhill.

Well considering the whole premise of King Kong is retarded to begin with, this looks pretty good.
"Altruism is killing America. We who want to save America must repudiate this killer, root and branch. We must understand and explain to others that the acceptance of altruism necessitates the violation of individual rights... and that the arguments for altruism are baseless..."

Well, I found plenty of Naomi Watts pics, BUT SINCE THE FORUM SOFTWARE WON'T AUTO-SCALE IMAGES (even though crappy software like Fark.com uses can) I CAN'T POST ANY OF THEM WITHOUT RESIZING AND REHOSTING.

/end rant

Peter looks a lot better than at the end of LOTR! He looked like he was working himself to death through those films, and what a lot of people don't realize is that obesity can be a result of poor diet rather than lack of exercise-which Peter was obviously getting while shooting three movies at the same time!

And I still think the movie is going to ROCK!

One more thing: Eriamjh wondered why redo something instead of making a completely new movie. Some films are so important to some people that they are moved to make their career choices because of them. "King Kong" is why Ray Harryhausen got into stop-motion animation, developing a huge body of very successful work that led to many of the advances in the field. He heavily influenced such people as Phil Tippet, who engineered the "snow walker" sequence in "The Empire Strikes Back." That's a lot of impact. Peter Jackson says he was moved to become a director by "King Kong," but as a director, he felt he would like to tell that story in a slightly different way. Instead of telling a similar story by translating it into a different place and time ("Edward Scissorhands" is a retelling of "Frankenstein" by Tim Burton), Peter is telling the story with different actors in a more realistic acting style and with much more advanced effects. That's something directors do.

Good point -- I'm *thrilled* Jackson isn't trying to modernize this flick. It's not so much a remake as it is an update.

Damn. And I thought it would look awful. Too bad Adrian Whatshisname's in it. But Black balances that out. Odd seeing him outside the Mr. 420 role I usually see him in.

I might actually go see this. It will be the first movie I've seen in theaters outside of…well…LotR.

The new trailer is up.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/king_kong/

I sure hope Kong doesn't try to bang that chick he is in love with as it will get rather ugly and messy.

Well, Jackson effed up the LotR series pretty good, so I'm having a hard time holding out hope for this one. Please, please, resist the cheese Peter. That's all I ask.

And: CGI looks a little spotty. A couple of those action shots with the dinos made me wince.

And let's face it, folks: Jack Black, trying to be intense and serious, just doesn't work. Listen to his voiceover – "Imagine, if you will, and uncharted island..." – and his acting. Hey, maybe it'll be better when it's seamless, but that just made me think of Barry giving buying orders to some loser who doesn't yet own Blonde on Blonde.

Other than that, I think from the trailer it looks like a pretty sweet movie.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just bitter over the Rings job.
