Gonna hit the UK for a week... know that the GBP is not in the EUR party (yet)... but am wondering if the Euro is generally accepted in the country.
Any input would be appreciated! Thank you.

Probably not, they are fanatic zealots when it comes to their precious pound.
(like Denmark and Sweden are of their Kroner)

Hey, we're not fanatic—you can pay with Euros (though only notes) most places here!
Anyway, Sealobo, aren't you coming straight from Hong Kong? Why would it be easier to get Euros?

Take a little bit of pounds with you, try to pay as much as possible with your credit card and if you would need more then just pick up some money with your credit card from an ATM. Don't expect people in the UK to accept euros.
Welcome to Europe.

The only non-EURO country that widely accepts Euros is Switzerland. Oh shock, those money-loving cheeseheads...

Big stores like Marks & Spencers tend to accept them, but give change in £. However, MasterCard / Maestro can be used for almost anything now anyway. Hope you have a good time. Are you visiting for business or pleasure? Where are you going?

Not that bad everywhere... most places are reasonably fair and offer a 7 to 1 rate (actual rate is currently 7.449). Though I have seen a few leechy places that 'offered' as low as 5 to 1 rates. Thieves.

You can pay in big name stores with Euros generally (e.g. Virgin Megastore, and Marks & Spencer i think), but it isn't officially supported for the majority of shops and businesses.

Man, I wish you Europeans would get your act together and make a 'more perfect union' out of all your countries. If for nothing else to provide a counter weight to China and the US these days.

with 300 million people in financial union, why are a couple of brits and scandos not paying in Euros more of a problem than, say, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Trinidad not running on US dollars?
