Hi, everybody: Since I was outsourced about 1.5 yrs ago (thus, my user name here) by MicroShaft, the only job I could find was in an insurance call center (ugh!). This, of course, was also when the tech sector crashed and burned.

MicroShaft!? Yes, I supported ALL Mac products. That was cool. I used a Mac and supported the software. Sure, at times it felt hypocritical; at least I was using Mac hardware and software. Best of all -- the pay was FANTASTIC!

Dismayed with the layoffs, I thought that I'd never get another tech job, esp. since mine was sent to India, and since it looked like the tech industry just wasn't going to recover. However, it looks like things are improving a bit, and I've considered getting certified again to get back into the industry. I DON'T want to work in a call center again -- that's for sure!

So, I'm now looking at the different certifications available. The only one I ever did -- just to challenge myself -- was the MCSE in NT 4.0. Considering the M$ decision to move jobs to another country, I really don't want to pursue another MS cert -- esp. if I'm never going to apply it to a job.

Consequently, I'd really like to pursue an Apple cert., but where the heck are the jobs? Do a Dice or Monster search and you'll find a few jobs at the Genius Bar making minimum wage, or an engineer/developer job.

Maybe the Apple OS certs could lead into another cert like the Linux+ from CompTIA or the Novell CLE (or is it CLP). And then there's Cisco's CCNA. But...I like operating systems. Not sure if Cisco stuff is my bag.

Anyway, I want to get something VERY QUICKLY so I can get out of this bloody call center. Maybe an M$ cert. like the Desktop Technician or even Office Support Specialist wouldn't hurt, but...it's M$.

Your insights and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

Where I work, Apple certifications are covered so long as you pass the exam. If I remember correctly, the course for the hardware exam is around $2000 and includes one thick book to cover. The exam itself only costs $200. However, the course isn't necessary so long as you know your stuff from the book and can get a hold of it.
