I think this is a total marketing ploy, and nothing is really "special" about a Canadian diamond.

They aren't carved or chipped, they form them by whining the bits off.

btw: Don't buy into the whole "diamond thing". They aren't as rare as DeBeers makes em out to be. They have vaults and vaults of the things, and tightly control the overall market supply to simulate rarity.

Get a truly precious stone.

The prez of DeBeers said way back that they were trying to diversify their investments because while diamonds are cool rocks (and do have many industrial uses), they're just rocks after all, which our culture has deemed as worth more than they should be.

It wasn't quite in those words obviously, but I was still impressed with his honesty.

In a couple years Canada will prob be the 3rd largest world producer of diamonds based on value

Another three mines may open by 2007: one at Snap Lake, about 220 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, N.W.T; Victor, near James Bay in Ontario; and Jericho in Nunavut. These mines will consolidate Canada’s position in world diamond production by value, third after Botswana and Russia.
