Well, that's more of a sentence mechanics error.

Actually, I think people just misspell "its" most of the time. It's very rare that you see the opposite.

Besides, how often to we talk about Eskimos here? And who spells it Esquimeaux, anyway (besides French people)?

Webster's New World [Insert Foreign Language Here] Dictionary includes a list of common English participles, some of which surprised me to some extent.

- He has shorn/sheared.
- He has quit/quitted.
- He has spoiled/spoilt.
- He has sped/speeded.
- He has bet/betted.

And besides, with past participles, at least one dictionary surely considers it a correct form

AFAIK, "payed" is only acceptable in certain (uncommon) instances.

masturbation... oh, in THIS lounge...oh ummm bill gates (devil on earth)

side-note: I still cringe when i hear people say OfTen for often. I remember being taught from an early school age that it's pronounced ofen like soften and listen...i know it's right to say it either way...but not for me.

I prefer callipygean, but other than that, I tend to like it very much

(Especially because it's such a useful word—you can comment on other people's asses, and mostly they won't even be aware of it)

No, Eskimo and Inuit are two different things. Inuit only includes the Eskimo peoples of Northern Canada and Greenland, who speak Inuit (Inuktitut) languages. The Eskimos of Alaska speak either Inupiaq or Yupik languages, and are not Inuits. If you want to be fully PC, you'd have to refer to them as either Inupiaq or Yupik, since calling them Inuit would be a case of political correctness (possibly) being offensive.

Still, as far as I know, Eskimo is only considered politically incorrect in Canada and the US. Over here, there is nothing offensive whatsoever about the word Eskimo, and Greenlandic people usually refer to themselves as Eskimos, rather than Inuits, in Danish.

Re: Paid/payed: Lavar is right, payed is the past tense of pay when it means to put either pitch or tar on the seams or fissures in the hull of a wooden ship, to prevent water from being able to penetrate the hull of the ship. You can learn many such useful things by reading “Tales of Protection” by Erik Fosnes Hansen.
