Looks 1960s-ish. Kinda retro that way. 
I think i would have put a brushed stainless cover on the scroll wheel instead of the wood.

I think it looks really nice. Far more original and interesting than a signature on the back of an iPod, or some random crappy band with an iPod named after them.

I don't prefer one over the other; but plastic made to look like wood (and failing miserably) is definitely far inferior to both.
