Why is the NEWS so ignorant?

1 Navy SEAL found alive.
1 found dead.
2 missing in action.

AND, the news is not only spelling the acronym wrong, but they are putting up maps and being a bit too forward with their reporting. Morons.

They are also showing the BUDS training camp footage, as seen on Discovery Channel, constantly. Why do that? Let's recap. 1 Dead, 1 Found Alive, 2 MIA. Hey, let's show these guys training while we report on this. It's not a fluff piece, it's serious.

Sorry for the rant.
We have a relative that went in to search for these guys, and it irritates me how careless the News reporting has been. I'ts downright disrespectful.

I have to agree with you. Journalism should be about reporting facts, and getting such facts as the official name of an organization wrong is just plain bad journalism. It is like reporting about an amusement park in Souther California and calling it "Dyskneeland." Bad journalist! No byline!

And pass on my thanks to your relative. It is important to let service members know that we care. I know from experience.

BTW: I was referring to FOX news, not network news, as I rarely watch network. I'm shocked that they would be so lax in their editing. I wrote them and explained their error, so when the report on the topic again, they'll get it right, and maybe be a little bit more reserved and respectfull.

Will do. (Passing on the thanks).

This is why I only read the news or watch The News Hour on PBS. Everything else is too sensationalized. Other TV news shows seem to add all this fluff just to get ratings or something.

And if it's not sensationalized, then people STILL say it's "biased one way or the other."

It would also be nice if someone could teach these people that there is a difference between a Marine and a soldier.

They may never get what an Airman is...

Unfortunately most "news" programming is actually entertainment programming whose subject is news items. How much actual data are you going to be able to get from a "world news" program that is only 30 minutes (including commercials) long? I listen to NPR, read several online news sources (most BBC stuff is pretty well done, though you have to factor out the "Britishisms" and their penchant for "interesting" turns of phrase), and critically read my local paper. Critical reading is imperitive if you want to know something about what's going on-or to find out that newsroom computers seem to lack spell checkers.

The Jedis do that.

Wikipedia's article is well done, if a little out of date: SEAL teams are no longer applied to a specific area of operations.
