Chirac Cracks Jokes About Mad Cow Disease and English Food

BY THE NEW YORK TIMES

Published: July 4, 2005

PARIS, July 4 -President Jacques Chirac of France cracked jokes about mad cow disease and English food in a conversation with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany in Kaliningrad on Sunday, the French daily Liberation reported today.

"The only thing they have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow," Mr. Chirac joked, eliciting laughter from Mr. Schröder and Mr. Putin, the newspaper said. As for British food, Mr. Chirac apparently said, "You can't trust people who cook as badly as that."

I did. Already a thread but I think it's for Brits, so I'm going to post in yours because it's not restrictive to just the UK folks.

GO LONDON! YOU RAWK!
Thank Gawd it wasn't PARIS.

I was at the IOC meetings. The London team under Coe really stepped it up on the performance. The talk about revitalizing the area and bring a youthful spirit back helped as well. I thought London had the best performance, with Paris next, NYC in the middle and Madrid and Moscow on Mars or something.

I think Moscow would have been interesting. I've been wanting to visit.

Does anyone think that the US's increasingly restrictive visa requirements hurt New York's chances of winning?

No. In fact Bush's video message to the IOC explicitly said that that would not be an issue.

It was Europe's turn. And as solid as the French bid one, the London bid will force the improvement of an area of London that needs improving. The IOC likes that kind of legacy.

Sorry to hear that. That way for sure no terrorists would have had any reason to go. France is already their ally.
