Homolka helped her ex-husband, Paul Bernardo, rape and kill Leslie Mahaffy, Kristen French and her own sister, Tammy Homolka.

Sounds like a lovely little lady, the kind you'd want to bring home to meet your parents.

She got a sympathetic audience in downtown Montreal, where many people had seen at least part of the interview.

Downtown Montreal ? Why I am not surprised at the location.

Jeff Dobeau, a pierced and tattooed man in his 20s, predicted an easy transition for Homolka.

"I don't know Toronto, but I think we Quebecers are more ready to accept her," he said.

Ok, we get it. Quebecers are apparently more fond of serial killers than any other group.

"There is an openness of spirit. We forgive more easily. But at the same time, we remember. And I know it's a bit strange to say, but I find her French charming."

Wow, the murdering, torturing, serial killer, rapist, sexual deviant and sadist speaks French ! Let's forgive her !

"But Quebecers have a different mentality when it comes to crime."

You can say that again.

Is the political lounge closed?

I mean, if it isn't who is in there anyway?

Umm yeah, she served out her sentence, what more do you want? Is it so wrong that she be allowed a second chance?

The simple fact is the crimes happened in Ontario and Quebecers just don't feel so strongly about it to give her hell.
-"I don't believe in God. "
"That doesn't matter. He believes in you."

-"I'm not agnostic. Just nonpartisan. Theological Switzerland, that's me."

Oh, I wouldn't know. I'm not the right person to ask if the PL is closed.

My post is no more political than some post about Toyota and American workers.

I agree, but I thought I'd be the first to mention it just in case the usual suspects come in and start harrassing you.

I've been banned too from the PL. No idea why, well I have an idea, but that doesn't make it right.
Anyway. Why not just have ONE lounge take no prisoners? Or at least on Fridays only, a take no prisoners day...sort of a Canarvil Wagon Open Line Friday.... thing.

Talk about trying to hard to flame and not knowing anything about the case

Personally I think she should rot forever in jail BUT she made a deal to help convince her partner who really was the one responsible for most of it. She served a very long sentence. What should they do with her after that point?

For starters, how about not giving her compliments, and people turning up to show their support for the murderer.

And regardless if she's done her time or not (12 years is a joke), she's still guilty of what she has done in the past, nothing can change that. She should live a miserable life for as long as she lives.

They don't want to release her with "This is a dangerous woman" kill her when she gets out.

Woman never serve as long as men do, she is serving 12 years which is still a long time for someone who cut a deal.

It is better then getting off like O.J. or MJ did.

Do I wish she was still in jail? Yes.

But, prosecutors made a deal with her in order to get her husband. Turns out that deal wasn't entirely necessary, but there it is none-the-less. Now, she's served her full sentence; it's not even like she's out early on parole.

It was more of a response for me saying something about cars and America. Remember last time they tried that about dehumidifiers and it totally backfired.

Could be worse; we could have trading cards for our serial killers.

Pachead,

Need I point out the MILLIONS of Americans that watched the gruesome details of the OJ trial everyday? Or how about the MILLIONS of Americans that sat glued to the tv set watching the DC sniper on CNN everynight?

So, what I see in your thread here is that some Canadians are of the mind set that a criminal has served her sentence, and are not opposed to her living in their community... while at the same time Americans, by the millions, view real life murder on tv for entertainment purposes. I am sure some Canadians do too.

And, just because you enjoy painting with your broad brush, remember that Canadians and Americans are essentially the same in all ways, and you end up getting paint on yourself with every stroke.

Do you really think you as an American you stand on moral high ground? A person from the country with the HIGHEST number of serial killers out there? Be careful, the dirt is crumbling out from under your feet as I type this.

As to the specifics of her sentence... she was given a plea and reduced sentence in exchange for testifying against Paul Bernardo. At the time there was very little evidence against her, and it was thought her role in the murders was less than what it later turned out to be. This is a common practice in criminal systems, including American ones. After her deal, evidence came up that showed she had much more involvment than was previously thought, however the deal had been made. This is why her sentence was as short as it was.

Edit: Honestly, your anti Canadian diatribes have more holes in them then swiss cheese. I wonder if posts like these were part of the reason you were banned from the lounge?

I am concerned for you. You are turning worse with time. I am curious what you'll be like the day you reach the limit.

You are quoting one individual, one article on the topic and painted the whole province of Quebec. Congratulations; you have no sense of discrimination in terms of reality.

The whole story is very emotional, especially for people in Ontario, and rightly so. This case has been given a lot of media time because of that; there is nothing else totalk about. We have criminals released after their time on a daily basis who did worse, with better deals, or longer time in jail for more horrendous crimes, and they never made it to the news paper.

Get a grip on a chair; you are not really flying when you flap your ears.

And here is a little story for you.

Moral:
So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Tell that to the Canadian press, they're the ones that came up with this title:

Homolka finds sympathy in Quebec

If you want to discuss the case, start another thread without the flame bait "My country is better than yours" stuff.

It's an interesting case, even more so because she was given a plea deal because she was thought to be a victim who participated out of fear for her life, before they found the videotapes that showed she was clearly a willing participant.
