This is directed to Mac users in/near Bogota, Colombia.

At the 27th of August, I'll be going to Bogota for three months, and I would love to meet fellow Mac users. I think the head office of Apple South America is even in Bogota, so there must be some Mac users there. But I don't even know if you can buy Macs in Bogota.

Looking forward to hear from the locals,

Sven

When i was there a couple of years ago i couldn't find any Mac dealers - but my friend who still live there has bought an iPod last month - but i think this was from the Exito supermarket.

have a good time, the people are very friendly and the food is great, just don't drink the hot chocolate with cheese in - not nice!!

but make sure you drink plenty of this stuff!!

What is Bogota like? I have a couple of friends who are about to be stationed there for a couple of years and I was wondering whether to visit them. I've heard it is really dangerous.
this sig intentionally left blank

well, it's not your usual tourist destination.
Two of my friends have been out there for 4 and 2 years, without any problems.
As long as you are vigilant and don't go were you should go, you'll be safe. I wouldn't recommend going unless one of the group speaks very good Spanish. While quite a few people can speak English, to get the best from the place it's best to speak the local lingo!

I guess you know that the government and the rebels are not the best of friends to put it mildly, but it's calmed down a bit in recent years within the big cities. but i would use extreme caution in the small towns and jungle.
In saying all that, it is a beautiful country and very friendly people.

What are your friends doing out there?

Apparently the city of Bogota itself is very safe. I'm not planning on playing Michael Douglas as in Romancing the Stone, how adventurous that even might be...

Speaking of movies, there is this movie out, Mr & Ms Smith. My girlfriend in Colombia says that it is "suppose" to be set in Bogota, but in this film the city is hot & sweaty, while Bogota is always around a boring 18 degrees Celsius (64 F). They've got the four seasons in one day and think it's hilarious how they portray Bogota in the film.. Meteorologic wise Bogota must be the most curious city I will ever visit. Always same weather (ie changing all the time), always sunrise and sunset at the same time, always same temperature... Curious...
