Got into grad school at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). So I guess I'm movin from New England to GA in November. Actually I grew up in Atlanta and Baton Rouge, LA, so for me it's like goin home.; Anyone have happy thoughts of Savannah or moving on that you'd like to share?

Which programme will you be studying in? I know the director of the Industrial Design programme.

Love Saint Patrick's Day weekends there (we used to go en masse from Myrtle Beach). Had some friends who went to art school there as well. Hot chicks. Read Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil. Don't see the movie.

Albert- you are kidding right?
Wiskedjak- I'll be going into Advertising Design.
Randman- I have heard about St. Patrick's Day (2nd Largest in the country) That ought to be interesting. How far is Myrtle Beach from Savannah? I have friends there.
I saw the movie (YEARS ago). Maybe I'll pick up the book since it has been so long and it for a different reason now.

I checked that out- looks great! I'm sure I won't have a problem finding great food down there. I better lose 10 lbs. now- in anticipation.

Having been in both places, I would tend to agree a bit. Though I won't call Yankees rude, just not as open and friendly.

The book of Midight in the Garden of Good and Evil was soooooo much better than the rather sucky movie made from it. Read the damn book already.
I nearly went to Savanah College, as they were handing outs lots of scholarships years back. I'll be curious to hear your opinions.

You're actually going to be about 3.5 hours from Myrtle Beach (I live in Charleston and we're about 1:45 from both Myrtle and Savannah). Having lived in Baton Rouge, you've probably seen heat like there (but its hard to really get used to. I remember when I first moved to Chucktown 10 years ago, my then-gf and I went out to a local bar at 1:00 am one July night and the temp was 88 degress with a heat index of 101 ... brutal.) Fall, Spring, and "Winter" are, of course, just lovely.
On the positive side, in the last 10-15 years, Savannah and a few other southeastern cities (Asheville NC, Charleston SC) have had MAJOR revivals of their downtown areas. When my buddy was at SCAD around 1990, Savannah was rough, dirty, and dangerous ... the mixture of "artsy" SCAD students, poor inner city residents, and nearby Marine boot camp made a typical Friday night on the River Front ripe for fights and/or verbal altercations. Property crimes were rampant as well (take with a grain of salt, of course .. my experiences are from more than a decade ago)
Otherwise, I think you'll really enjoy it (especially if you live downtown near the school). Savannah (along with Charleston, New Orleans, Key West, and a few other places IMHO) is one of the more quirky, unique and surprising places in the US ... living there really won't be similar to living any other place.

LOVELY- nredman. Anyway, so much to do in the meantime, I re-applied for advertising instead of graphic design- just because I'm never satisfied. Accepted again, but more pre-requisites. Ugh. Really, I think I'll get more out of this program- learn more. So I'll analyze again and probably go for it.
Looking at houses in the Islands area... not too bad, but you get more bang for your buck north of Savannah. I just have a hard time settling at his point. I want a comfortable, affordable, place to live for 2 1/2 years. Then who-knows?

I've been going back and forth between SVA and SCAD. I guess I should just apply to both and see what happens. Savannah seems nice.
