Some guy used buy it now for my 20gb iPod and then claimed it was a mistake and that he thought it was $1. What an idiot!!! yeah, I'd sell the iPod at buy it now for $1 when listing fees were $8 for it! I don't even know what to do. I want to give negative feedback but don't want him retaliating giving me negative feedback for trying to work with him etc. The system is just wrong with that feedback thing. I bet a lot of people would have more negative feedback if only the people in the wrong would get them and not the people in the right.

sigh....

Just ranting..

Read their policies. I'm almost positive that if something like that happens eBay does not allow retaliatory feedback.

He should definitely get a neg.

eBay will refund you your listing fees.

Yeah, it's a pain. Gotta dispute it, then you'll get the listing fees back.

Just quit ranting and relist it. eBay will reimburse your fees for you with a Final Value Fee Credit.

who cares if it is a retaliatory negative feedback? be a good ebay citizen and mark the fool negative with a good and honest explanation of the situation. he wont have much to say in return, and you will get to comment on their feedback anyway.

ive always kind of felt like people who have PERFECT ebay records are the weird ones.

From eBay:

"Unpaid Item strikes are issued and tracked by eBay. Unpaid Item strikes are separate from feedback, and do not affect a user's feedback score or member profile. If a buyer is issued an Unpaid Item strike it will automatically be assigned to their account when the seller receives their Final Value Fee credit. Buyers have the option of appealing an Unpaid Item strike if they believe it was undeserved."

Give him an unpaid-strike. I guess that's all you can do if you want to get an unpaid-item credit from them.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just checked and you could still do negative feedback if you're feeling mad

Well, I already simply relisted the item. I also emailed ebay to ask if they can expedite the final value fee credit as he has already emailed stating he wasn't going to pay anything. I tried starting a dispute but ebay's website said I couldn't do it for a few days (I guess assuming that I need to give them time to pay).

Give him negative feedback. I have 3 negatives on my record, and all of them are from morons who I gave neg feedback too for crap like you stated. Nobody cares about their stupid opinions.

I have 1036 positives and five negatives. I got those because I left negative feedback for the other people for things like bad contact information, etc. But, that was back in 2001 and 2002 and none since then.

Now I don't care if someone doesn't buy something. I just go ahead and fill out the non-paying bidder form and that's it. I email the person and tell them they can either pay me for the auction listing fees and commission or I will have eBay reimburse me and if eBay reimburses me they will get a warning from eBay and after three similar warnings they're history. They usually reimburse me and that's the end of it.

Here's a good moron ebay story...

My brother lists a car for sale on ebay and it sells for $6200. The guy who buys it paypals a $1000 deposit to my brother and tells him that he'll come to pick the car up in the next week. Plans are arranged and the guy comes up from a couple states away, and my brother takes him on a long test drive, answers all his questions about the car, the buyer is really excited about the deal and pays the balance in cash. Title is exchanged and both parties receive a signed bill of sale.

The guy leaves with the car and my brother takes off for the evening. A couple hours later he gets a call from the buyer on his cell phone, but there's no reception and they attempt to talk, but it's cutting in and out and gets dropped in the first 20 seconds. My brother doesn't think anything of it goes on with his day.

My brother arrives home the next day to find the car parked in the driveway, no note, no title, and a set of keys in the ignition. Confused he drives the car around the block and everything is working just as well as when it left him the first time.

A couple days later, he gets an email saying "I changed my mind, please send me a check for the price of the car to this address." without any reason for why he changed his mind. My brother is a very reasonable guy, and basically writes back "Why don't you tell me what was wrong, why you changed your mind, etc, and we can work something out." Then he receives an email basically like "You're a cheat and a fraud, I'm calling the police and FBI."

So this was like 2 months ago, the truck is still sitting on his street, he's got a signed bill of sale and no title, so as far as he's concerned it's not his car anymore.

Go to Square Trade and contact the other people who mistakenly left feedback. It will cost you a little time and I think $20 each if you pay. They will remove the negative feedback if the other party agrees. It cost the other party nothing. I had to do this with a couple of idiots...

Cost me $40.00 but my feedback is important to me.

I did that once for one of them. I don't care about the negatives that I got 3 years ago. Besides, when I see that some people have zero negatives I think, "kiss-ass-who-will-do-anything-for-me-to-avoid-a-negative-feedback."

I just won an auction the other day, and the seller's autoemail informed me that after I left feedback, their system would automatically leave the same feedback for me. So, if they ship me a broken item and refuse a refund and I leave them negative feedback, they will leave me negative feedback as well. That's ridiculous.

Well. I guess I should be more of an a--hole and start racking up some negs. I wouldn't want to be known as a kiss-ass.

In my experience, NPBs usually don't leave negative feedback. If you are concerned, wait until the last minute that you can possibly leave feedback. Then when he sees it, he won't be able to leave feedback.

Well, I just put my Treo 650 up on eBay for $449 with a $450 "Buy it Now!" option. Someone bid, but didn't use the Buy it Now.

So now I have to wait 4 more days for the auction to end. Ugh.

AHH!! Thanks guys for backing me up and the stories. I'm definitely going to have to remember the 89 day thing!!! Is there a spot on ebay that tells you how much more time you have to leave a neg??? I'm going to have to put it in iCal!!! HAHA. I'll keep you posted with this idiot.

Oh yeah, I always provide tons of pictures and say that all sales are final on my auction (unless there's a problem with shipping of course). I sold my treo 600, a couple months ago, and now the guy is calling me on the phone and emailing me about a buzzing he's hearing and thank god he's only asking if there's a warranty still on it (which unfortunately there isn't). But I did point him to all firmware updates on Palm's website and Treocentral .

Sigh (again)

Drat! I was going to mention the 89th day negative! No time for them to retaliate!

Do it! But do it AFTER you file for non-paying bidder/iDot user thingie.

Yeah, the auction for my iPod by mr. Moron/iDot was July 8th (Friday) at 13:28 Pacific 3:28pm Central Time... So I think that puts me at October 5th, 2005.

You don't like ebay? There are always garage sales. You could get . . . like $3 for it if you sold it at a garage sale. That's a lot better than the $1 on ebay!

You're right, I wish there was a way around that. I always pay on time and that's what my rating should reflect, not if I've ever left negative feedback for someone else.

I think the eBay people should know about that. While it may not be technically prohibited, it is counter to the spirit of the eBay process. Feedback is supposed to be reflective of the transaction with the other person-automatically generating feedback to deflect negatives is not at all reflective. It sounds like abuse to me.

Further, if you DO get broken crap, REPORT IT TO EBAY IMMEDIATELY. They may be able to put some pressure on "a-hole inc." to get them to correct their policy.

October 5th is approaching. Are you ready to leave bad feedback?

On another note, I sold an item more than a week ago, shipped it, and the buyer has not left any feedback. I have requested he leave feedback so I can do the same with him, but no response.

I plan on leaving neutral feedback on the 89th day. That should piss him off.

What would you do?
