Is it better to take my powerbook to Tekserve or the Apple Store to be looked at? It doesn't cost anything if you have applecare to take it to Tekserve does it?

How do you get an appointment at the apple store?

Is it better just to call?

My computer is acting funny and I think it may be the memory stick, but I want to make sure it's not the hardware itself.

thanks.

I've always been happy with Tekserve. Both places you have to wait. I vote for supporting an independant company. Besides, they have all the technicians sitting right there working away on the machines.

The best time to go to Tekserve is early in the morning (preferably right at opening, 9-ish). That's when they're usually the least busy. the worst time is after 4... it basically gets busier and busier until closing. If you can't go early and don't want to wait, you can do a quick drop-off, where you leave the computer and they'll call you back within 72 hours with a diagnosis of the problem. Lately, though, the waits haven't been too bad (>20 minutes) until after lunchtime.

And yes, Tekserve honors AppleCare.

Thanks for the replies. So do you have to bring a proof of purchase to prove you just bought the powerbook?

I haven't registered it yet.

oops i thought you meant a place where you would be in a good position to get a lot of passers-by to stare at you and your computer.

you don't need the proof of purchase, but it might be a good idea to register it (why didn't you do that the first time you turned the computer on?)
