I've seen that NeXT video. It is very neat to watch. You can tell NeXTStep was Steve's baby. He must have been estatic when he found out he could mold the new Mac OS on it. It's amazing what the OS had back in the very early 90's compared to everyone else.

The original file is bigger and better, but I don't have 100MB to waste, so here's a smaller and slightly lesser quality 20MB version:

Bill appears close to the end. I suggest you watch it all. It's very interesting. Bill showing up on screen doesn't get as big a Boo as when Steve announces IE is now the default browser.

The only way for somebody to say "I have not seen it" would be to not click on the link you provided us. Like..so plus one, and you did not capitalize the S in Steve.

I hadn't seen the video before. It's of poor picture quality. Apparently the precursor to Mac OS X. It even had a Dock.

That voice attachments in mail is cool.

Sad question, why does NeXT seem faster on a 25MHz computer 10 years ago then OSX seems now on 5GHz?

It's not just the precursor. It IS OS X. Or what was turned into OS X. I told you, it was Steve's baby. He loved his OS. And I'm sure he was happy to keep it alive. NeXTStep didn't die, it just evolved.

I think we all know the answer to that. One word, Aqua. I bet they could have kept an OS 9 style and simple drawing routines to create the UI and made it a lot faster. But hell, this is the 21st century. We gotta have our eye-candy!

I...

Have no idea.

It was on one of the dozen or so Mac forums I visit every day a few months ago. Maybe this one. Maybe MacAddict or AppleAddict or MacWorld or SpyMac or AppleNova or ArsTechnica...

Interface aside, from the looks of the video, everything in NeXT looked to be very polished and finished. There are many aspects of OS X that need finishing and/or are poorly implemented.

Do you even know how the GUI works compared to say a 3D game?

Come on...

I saw a picture of the newest unreleased version of the NextOS and it was very attractive.
