I had this discussion with a friend about a week ago, since we've both been getting into beck. Basically, we think it's okay. Scientology is effing retarded...... but if it brings us Beck, then I guess it's okay.

...is a dangerous cult :)

She's got cigarette on each arm
She's got the lily-white cavity crazes
She's got a carburetor tied to the moon
Pink eyes looking to the food of the ages
She's alone in the new pollution
She's alone in the new pollution
She's got a hand on a wheel of pain
She can talk to the mangling strangers
She can sleep in a fiery bog
Throwing troubles to the dying embers
She's alone in the new pollution
She's alone in the new pollution
She's alone in the new pollution
She's alone in the new pollution
She's got a paradise camouflage
Like a whip-crack sending me shivers
She's a boat through a strip-mine ocean
Riding low on the drunken rivers
She's alone in the new pollution
She's alone in the new pollution

In an interview with the Irish Sunday Tribune newspaper's i Magazine in June 2005 , Beck confirmed this rumour, stating "Yeah, I'm a Scientologist. My father has been a Scientologist for about 35 years, so I grew up in and around it." When questioned, he was vague on the religion's core beliefs, but expressed support for its charitable works."

Dangerous loons.

"They gather people to explain them that they are unhappy, fat, ugly and impotent due to the presence of alien souls in their spirits. They call these souls, "dollars". In order to cure people, they will remove all the dollars from them physically, although a check or credit card will do also."

Scientology is for those who would otherwise be athiests.

I wonder what folks like Travolta, Cruise, Beck and all will be worshiping when they are in their 80's??? Probably NOT Scientology.

Yeah well Jesus wouldn't drive an SUV, support American Idol, Wal-Mart, or be interested in things like the NFL.

Eh, I'm not too bothered. I like Beck's music, but that's in spite of the fact that I've known he's a dick for years. (My mom used to work security at concerts, and she said he was one of the biggest assholes she'd ever seen backstage.)

Actually, Sea Change is one of my favorite recent albums.

Very, very beautiful IMO.

I don't really care too much for his other stuff...

I don't care what religion some celebrity follows, as long as they don't go around promoting it at every turn and refusing to even acknowledge that anyone who disagrees with them may even be PARTLY right...

In other words, I'm ok with actors being Scientologists... I'll watch John Travolta. Sure, he starred in that god-awful Battlefield Earth L Ron Hubbard thing, but I have yet to see him going around and jumping up and down like a madman saying "I'm a Scientologist! Woot! Look at me! I'm right and everyone else is wrong!"

No, and unless he does start doing stuff like that, I'll probably continue to watch Travolta.

But Tom Cruise on the other hand... I'll never be able to watch Top Gun again...

Peeps like him because he's a very high contender
for outsider numero numo - with his Bowie'esk cut
-up style lyrics and newage-punk outlook. He screams
misunderstood geek - and thats what geeks are
listening out for.

so why don’t you kill me?

I'm fine if that's his religion... as long as he doesn't go around saying he is smarter than everyone else, and that he can cure people, bla bla bla.

Maybe that's the point. Like.. let's say you have a bunch of friends who everyone looks up to. You're all famous. You all think that religion is ********. Then you all get stoned, and you come up with this idea:

"Hey dude...alright, check it out... what if we like... pretended to be some ... weird ass religion, that was just as stupid and made up as christianity, only we just took it full tilt and made it insane, and instead of constantly trying to be 'believeable', we just go nut balls on it and make up a bunch of weird insane ****. Maybe eventually, people will realize that we're only reflecting their own belief system on them, although it's a little distorted. I mean, isn't power and money what religion is all about? So let's just say it's about getting more power and money! Yeah!"

"Oh dude! Good idea! Hey, what do you think of Katie Holmes? I think she likes me, she sucked my d*** backstage of the awards ceremony, think I should ask her out? I'm thinking if I married her for a few months she'd let me do anal"

"good call dude"
