KISS!

I wouldn't want one. I'm not looking at the keys anyway, so it's just one more thing that sucks power and breaks easily.

Besides, it wouldn't work since the different keyboard layouts also have different key sizes/shapes.

I wish...

but the thought of having "pR0n, Viegra!*! On1y $39.99 W!nn3r!! [get your free ipod]!" scrooling across my keyboard does upset me.

That is a nice looking keyboard to say the least. I like how the sample pics show a command key and not a windows key. The only thing I don't like, which is probably easy to change, is that it has symbols instead of words for tab, caps lock, shift, etc. Also its wireless and probably eats batteries faster than an apple bluetooth mouse.

This would be handy for learning new programs, but I think before apple tackles a new keyboard, it needs to come out with a freakin two button mouse with a scroll wheel.

That would be quite possibly the most awesome keyboard ever. That said, I'm not holding my breath. We don't even have OLED laptop screens at reasonable prices yet, so there's no way they'll be able to get a keyboard going.

Once they've got one at something vaguely resembling affordability, though, I am so there. You don't suppose they might come up with a way to display screensavers or iTunes-esque visualizers on them, maybe?

I just wish apple put that cool backlighting from the powerbooks into desktop keyboards. They can be on all the time as power isn't an issue.

What's there to wonder ? Do you think it will magically light up and use no power ?

Well I don't think wireless would get the privilege of backlighting.

Cool concept for a kb. Probably too expensive.

Doesn't look like it would have a very good feel to it. Flat keys aren't comfortable.

It''s a mockup/model, just to get the idea across. For production they could easily use more traditional 'shaped' keys, made out of clear acrylic.

How do shaped keys change with every app?

Not shaped like that. Kilbey was... I believe referring to how 'flat' each individual key is. Each key looks like a perfect rectangle, and it's totally flat on the top surface, so it would feel a lot different from a normal keyboard. I was saying that they could make the surfaces more concave out of clear acrylic if it went into production.

Apple will never have such a cool looking keyboard.

I just hope they ditch the all white keyboards that they currently have.

The white is ok, it's the clear part that I don't like. Take one that someone has used for a couple years and turn it over. It'll probably be full of crud. I got a used Pro keyboard once and it was full of what I hope were arm hairs, but looked like pubes. Nasty.

So in other words, the screens would be flat, but covered with clear acrylic molded into the shape of a more traditional keycap?

That could work, but I still have doubts. In most keyboards, the key caps have a slight texture to them. Could this be duplicated without ruining the effect of the mini-screens?

Any curvature would affect the perspective at the edges of the keys and make the images inside the keys look "off".

you know there is another option out there. Those projection keyboards can theorectically do the exact same thing. Doing away with the pushing of a key, and just placing your finger there.

The keys on that keyboard aren't totally flat. In some of the photos, if you look carefully, you can see that they are slightly concaved.

Yep. It wouldn't affect the image much, since it's so close to the top of the key to begin with.

Possibly, but why bother? Textured keyboards get worn smooth anyway, if they started off smooth they'd never look worn out. Besides, the texture would probably make the images a bit fuzzier.

Since I rarely look at the keys, I'd want it to have a graphic equalizer going across the keyboard for everyday typing.

Wrong. The display is so close to the top of the key it wouldn't much matter. If they were farther away, yes, it would distort the image, but the display is butted right to the bottom of the clear plastic key.

Aren't you studying design now? You really need to learn a bit about materials and plastics engineering.
Nope, not yet. But I know I'm right on this. It's the same reason things look fairly clear when you have a magnifying glass right next to something. If you pull it farther away, it everything gets distorted, fuzzy, and unreadable.

Stupid idea. Same reason those indiglo remotes suck. You can't 'feel' the keys. It's be REALLY hard to type on.

Why? You just said you rarely look at them. Might as well just be a normal keyboard then.

I had an idea a while back to put the Apple dock on a small LCD on the top of the keyboard. An 80s computer by the name of Apricot had this idea:

That display often showed program names to switch to. Picture something like that, but put it in colour and with little pictures, and you have a dock-in-a-keyboard.

But with an OLED keyboard like this one, just have an extra row of keys that function as a dock! It'd be great - save screen real estate and still have easy app switching!

Amorya
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
