A guy in Canada wants to buy my speakers. We both have Paypal accounts however he doesn't not have enough money in his account. It takes 6 to 8 business to transfer money from a Canadian bank to a PayPal account and he would like to get the speakers shipped out soon. What's the safest and quickest method for him to pay me? I'm in the US.

He's gonna have to wait. If he didn't have the money, he shouldn'tve bid.

Cashier's Cheque is about it, NOT money orders or money transfers. NEVER give out your bank account number for the gods' sake.

After you get the cheque, let it clear first. Money Orders can be forged pretty easily.

Yeah, don't get pressured into doing anything stupid. If he wants to buy the speakers he can pay for them in an appropriate manner.
Hope it works out!

Where is it stated that it was an auction?
The guy wants to "BUY" his speakers.

Cashier's Check or have him wait like was already said.
If he actually in fact does start to pressure you, tell him to take a walk.

Let the Canadian wait. If he didn't have the money readily available, then he shouldn't have bid on the item.

Anyhow, who doesn't have a debit or credit card ? The last time I needed to transfer money to a Paypal account to pay for something I bought, it took a matter of minutes.

If he whines about anything, tell him to get lost.

I am glad that you have asked this, my friend, for I have a business proposition for to extend to you. I am the son of a wealthy royalty in Nigeria. Our family has become deep in political strife and we must transfer some monetary assets out of the country. If you would to be willing, we wish for you to temporarily keep approx. US$1,000,000 in your bank. When we have safely exited the country, you may return the money to us, but as a thank you you may keep US$100,000 for yourself. Of course we need to know that you will in good faith keep your part of the bargain, so first we ask that you wire us US$1,000.

I look forward to doing business with you.

Tell him to Western Union it. I've sent money to England that way. It takes about 20 minutes.

Is appears the maximum amount that can be transfered from Western Union Canada is $500 Canadian. I need $1500 + shipping in US dollars. However, thanks for the suggestion. I was responding to his wanted ad at audiogon.com, a web site that specializes in AV equipment. I've sold stuff here before and have positive experiences. If he sent me the cashiers check it would take about three days. I would then need mail it my bank which is an internet bank and has no physical branches, which could be another couple days. It would take more time for the check to clear. It seems PayPal maybe the best option, just have to wait for him to transfer the money to his account.

What about doing Western Union 4 times? Maybe it is the amount of money transferred at one time.

Make him wait. His fault. You'll get screwed if you don't.

From their FAQ:
--
10. How much money can I send from an Agent location?

Using an Agent location, you can send as much money as you'd like, although certain security compliance requirements must be met for amounts exceeding $1,000.00 or to comply with government requirements.

11. How much money can I send from westernunion.ca?

The maximum amount of money you can send online within a revolving 30-day period is $500.00.

My bank suggested either a wire transfer or a cashier's check. The wire transfer sounds like a reasonable alternative. Anyone done this before?

Yes, I did a wire transfer once to Hong Kong. It was rather expensive (from memory, $35.00, and AFAIR, both sides get charged a fee), and not all that quick. A fedexed cashier's check is cheaper and quicker. And of course, you don't need to exchange bank account information. He just needs a name to make it out to, and an address to ship it to.

You'd have to get him to check whether his bank can send a cashier's check in US Dollars. If not, you will have to pay for the conversion and would bear the risk of exchange rate fluctuations.

A FedEx cashier's check can be very fast. A wire transfer fee exists only if you do business with an overpriced bank. My credit union does not charge for wire transfers or cashier's checks (or electronic checks). His bank is his problem. All large checks received are electronically transferred and deposited instantly for my use. sam
