Pictures of crazy little kids in Barnes & Noble to come later*. Until then, discuss something real important.
*Tomorrow, after I've sobered up and am functioning enough to work my cellphone.

This AM I woke up and turned on the TV to get my dose of McNews. A Harry Potter QUIZ on MSNBC. I started hollering at the TV, at least giving my gf somethin' to snicker about.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

I'll go to Sam's Club to see if they have any. When Goblet of Fire came out, it was sold out in every book store around, but Sam's Club had hundreds of them.

Agreed 100% and I don't shop there. But I'll go to Sam's Club, and yes I know the relationship.

Yes, I'll probably be delivering quite a few of them. We had a meeting about the shipments. I didn't hear them announce it (iPod), so I don't quite know what the fuss is about. I guess I'll see tomorrow.

We just picked up two copies. And for the record, the last word of the book is "Hermoine".

And he gets his hand cut off.
OT(sorta): I never was able to get into HP.
I tried to read the first book and got bored.
I tried to watch the first movie on DVD and got bored.
I HIGHLY doubt I will read this new book.

The first book disturbed me when I read the first few pages... child abuse doesn't translate well, and it bothered me how he was being treated. I felt the same way when I started reading "The Green Mile" - Stephen King. That opening sequence in the book was quite disturbing.
I am slowly becoming a fan, but I guess, J.R.R. Tolkein ruined the rest for me.

My younger brother attempted to get into the books but found them very boring. Any time he had one in his hands, he was subsequently fast asleep. A few of my friends told me it was a good series that was not just for kids, but they were never able to convince me.

Too bad. I used to actually HATE harry potter, but after I read the first one, then then 2nd, I think they're okay. They're just really really well written fluff, so you can fly through them and have a bit of fun.

Impressive you finished one much less two whole books given that they are written at about a 5th grade level. Did your wife help you with the big four syllable words?

I read all of them, thanks. But that's just it, I don't normally read fluff. I read philsophy books most of the time. Why are you such a dick? Did someone from madison rape your mother or something? You have serious problems, and, you're reported. Again. For being a dick without any reason. Again. If I were a mod I would have banned your ass years ago.

My wife is a big Harry Potter fan. Has all the books. She prefers the British version, due to arrive on Monday.

I think H.P. should be categorized as "entertainment" rather than "fluff". There's no reason to downplay it just because it is not convoluted. Personally, I will be buying the first book to see what this whole Harry Potter thing is all about (hoping that there's more than what's shown in the movies).

Yeah, I don't get that. How come they changed it to Sorcerer's Stone? Does Microsoft have a copyright on "Philosopher's Stone" or something?

I like H.P. It's pure entertainment, not exactly the type of book you pull out the good chocolate and a bottle of red wine for, but rather excellent bedtime material.
Of course, if you're the type that only reads one book each year, I'd rather recommend The Life of Pi or the Alchemist or some other life changing book.

How come they changed it to Sorcerer's Stone?
The belief was that Americans are too stupid to understand that a philosopher's stone would have to do with alchemy, not what's now thought of as philosophy.

Well according to Captain Asshole, both of our wives are complete twits, and are reading books written for elementary school kids, so they both must be stupid.

Don't be stupid. Everyone knows that the books were never intended for kids, let alone 5th graders. Pull your head out of your *** and kindly shut up

The movie was marketed toward elementary school kids. Do children in your nation know that a "Philosopher's Stone" has nothing to do with Kant and Sartre?

If you don't like Harry Potter, then don't talk about it, and let the people who DO like it just discuss it. Stop being a troller... Now to the original topic Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. I read it in 10 hours, and got it at the midnight release. It was really good, but sad... So much happens

Finished it at 3:00 am this morning. I second the OMFG. Let's just say that this book is definitely the best of the first 6. Things happen that will make you say "Oh. My. God." Book 7 can go ANYWHERE.....

Yeah, this book was...kinda like Empire Strikes Back. Ending was pretty.. well... it sucks that it ended that way, only because we have to wait so long for the next one. I mean, what a downer. Also... the fact that ... well,..
SPOILER, only read on if you've read the book!!!!
What I don't dig is the fact that Hogwarts is going to close, and Harry isn't coming back. And since Hermoine and Ron are coming with, it's almost like the fellowship of hte ring, wandering around trying to find those.... eh... whatever they are things. Horscruxes. Might as well just read LOTR from now on.

The funny part is this thread was created to make fun of Harry Potter fans and you guys derailed it into a discussion about how you guys are fans! The irony. All the more reason to discuss goofy Harry Potter fans!
