OK so this is actually a bet I am trying to clear up here.

My girlfriend said that there is a place in NYC where one can BUY human meat LEGALLY. I asked her how this could possibly be and she told me because when homeless people die, if there is no will and no one claims the body it can be purchased for safe consumption or some BS like this. I totally called her on it and she claims that it is 100% true. I claim it's an urban legend, but now there is money on this.

So first off. Is cannibalism expressly illegal in the US? I know there are laws against murder and I know there are laws against the defiling of a human corpse. BUT if a family of cannibals were to have a family member die, and that family member were to leave in his/her will that he/she wished to be eaten by his/her family. Would the authorities have any right to stop the preparation and consumption of that corpse? Are there any legal examples of something like this out there? I've tried googling and I've also tried a Lexis/Nexus search with nothing really saying "Yes Cannibalism is expressly illegal."

Please refrain from the "your girlfriend is an idiot" remarks. She's really hot, so it makes up for it

Yeah that does sound like ALOT of BS, she'd better be really hot... The only time I've heard of someone getting away with canibalism is when a guy put and add out on the internet about wanting to eat someone. A lot of suisidial (spelt wrong) people volentered. And... he ate one of them. There was a court case but it was a common agreeance between the two people (eater and eaty). But this was all from word of mouth and is probally a myth too...

Actually that last one was not a myth, it happened in Germany and the German government is having a very hard time prosecuting him because the entire time he was eating the person and butchering him, the victim lie awake and conscious and repeated that they wanted to do this. Because it was a willful kill that was requested, the German government could only prosecute Mr. Miewse (I think that was his name) under illegal Euthanasia laws and he could only receive a 30 day to 5 year sentence instead of the life sentence that prosecutors were trying to get under a murder statute. So the German Government is now trying to find precedent to try him under European Union laws against torture of a victim, which could impose a much stiffer penalty.

A man accused of killing, dissecting and eating another man has gone on trial in central Germany.
The court heard how horror films had fuelled Armin Meiwes' childhood fantasies of eating school friends.

The 41-year-old computer technician is charged with murder, even though the victim allegedly volunteered for his fate by replying to an internet advert.

The gruesome incident was all captured on camcorder and the footage is expected to form part of the evidence.

"I had the fantasy, and in the end I fulfilled it," he said. The fantasy first developed between the ages of eight and 12, he added.

Mr Meiwes spoke of how he felt ignored by his father, and longed for a good-looking younger brother - whom he would bind to himself forever by consuming.

Just happened in Germany last year. (*shame*)

The guy found someone willing to be eaten. So they met, and cut offthe guy's balls first, ate them, then ate the rest. The guy is in prison now. No excuse that there was an agreement between both parties.

We're going on a cruise here in a few days. It's actually pretty cute/funny that whenever we go anywhere, I don't think twice about ordering a beer or a gin and tonic and then she is always like "Diet Coke" (No Fake ID). That's about the only time I remember she's underage...that and when she tells me it's legal to eat people.

Hey Flip, me and her actually just saw Dane Cook at The Laugh Factory. We were expecting only to see Chris Rock's brother perform and then they were all like "And we have a special treat for you tonight, Dane Cook is going to come out and do a set for you".
