I don't know if it's still true that most MacNN'ers are old enough to see an R rated movie. Things have changed a bit 'round here.
But I saw the Wedding Crashers last night and it was freakin' hysterical. Usually comedies are a one-shot deal for me -- I don't care to see it again for a long time. But when this movie was over I wanted to see it again.
Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

What was so good about it? I'm thinking of seeing it.

The writing and dialogue are excellent. The director knew when to say "CUT" and when to let the dialogue run its course. The characters are consistent but not overwrought. The actors seemed to embrace their roles with a certain subtlety that a typical action flick lacks. So you have the perfect mix of visual and verbal expression, as appropriate for each character.
For me, casting is a big part of what makes a movie. The casting in this one was excellent, with the possible exception of Owen Wilson. It's not that he is bad for the part but that his lack of originality at this point is a bit distracting. He's the same guy in every movie, and we know what to expect so his contribution is predictable throughout.
THAT SAID: the movie's writing and characters present a refreshing caricature of the middle and upper white class. The characters are familiar and fresh at the same time.

As a reference, what did you think of Starksky and Hutch?

I enjoyed Starsky and Hutch. Moreso the second and third time watching it.

I was skeptical f this movie when I saw the ads. Thanks for the positive review and not adding spoilers. Far too many newspapers give out important plot points while reviewing. It's one of the reasons I like Roger Ebert's reviews. He rarely gives anything out about the movie.

I'm at a wedding right now... go figure.
Swanky Hotel, then a nice Yacht for the reception and dinner, then fireworks, and I'm going to get lucky tonight!!
Gonna make good use of that open bar as well.

The reason I saw it is because the Wall Street Journal actually had a semi-approving review. That's not common for that type of movie. I figured there was something different about it. Definitely better than any of the American Pie movies.

It's pretty raunchy - I saw a lot more boobies than I was expecting. Very amusing
SPOILERS IN WHITE
The only real problem I had with the movie was the lack of actual wedding crashing. That and the fact that there's plenty of stuff that happens that never really gets used. We all know that Zack is a dick (the prep who gets engaged to Owen's girl and throws up a lot because of the eye drop incident), but none of his dickness (cheating on his girl with strippers, etc) ever gets exposed! And where's the f*n meatloaf?
