I disagree. The meat is a blend of beef and lamb (or all lamb) and usually VERY lean, the bread is quite healthy, and the sauce (if it's used) is supposed to be a cucumber-based number that's both light and flavorful. Gyros are GREAT!

My first was in a restaurant called Olga's Kitchen in Southeastern Michigan. It was actually her particular take on the gyro, but it got me hooked. I haven't had a bad one, and I've had them all over.

There's a restaurant here in San Antonio called "It's Greek to Me" (I swear!) that makes GREAT/WONDERFUL/DELICIOUS gyros. It's in the Medical Center area, and it's worth the trip if you're not near there. Wonderful people there, too. (end of shameless plug for a nice place)

btw, I had falafel for dinner yesterday, on the way to the falafel place I took a big tumble from the skateboard again, it was getting dark and I ran over a strip of lether!!! oh well nothing major..ankle is a bit sore again.so Im going to lay off it for a few days again..going to make some poached eggs today with some whole wheat bread..i hope i dont see the yellow yolk until i dig into the poached eggs, i hate it when the yolk spills out while cooking it.. well back to work..

We decided to go to Cracker Barrel. What a cop out, huh? Anyway, I had the "Summer Chicken" special (with corn on the cob!) and my wife had a pork chop and greens. The only problem is that Cracker Barrel is always crowded.

Tomorrow evening, dinner at HOME!

Olga's Kitchen is a chain. But very good nonetheless. I have eaten at the one in Ann Arbor and the one in the mall in Okemos.

Yep, and I started eating at her stores (I actually met Olga once) about 26, maybe 28 years ago. She had stores all over the place for a while-my sister worked in the one in Austin, Texas while she lived there with us. That one closed; apparently the fanchisee lost his mind or something, and now there's some sort of weird college and sports related clothing store in that spot.

While Olga's stuff is not "classic" recipe, it gets you hooked!
