The diner near me is being renovated for the first time in 40 years and I was recalling with a friend that we have eaten a lot of meals there with friends since high school. Then we discused that only some meals are only good at a diner not at home or resturaunt. Which is yours?

Mine;

Main Dish: Grilled Reuben, cheese fries, coleslaw or the same sides but just a Cheeseburger Deluxe (New Jersey diner talk for Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion)

Drink: Chocholate Shake or Iced tea unsweetened and water with lemon always

Desert: Apple, blueberry, or key lime pie

Find your diner here!!

Dude, there is never anything that is 'dinner only'. If it was up to me, I'd have 'breakfast' all day long.

I was just having this conversation with the woman I am seeing. We were at the laundromat tonight and it is right next door to a diner I used to frequent when I waited tables at a place nearby.

The diner is called "Brinkley's" and it has a lovely little dive bar attached around back--How they solve the "must sell food" requirement for bars. My favorite meal is a well-done plain waffle with a side of fries and brown gray. Dip the fries in the gravy and let the excess drip on the waffle. Then eat the waffle. Oh, and drink a glass of OJ or hot cocoa with it (depending on the season).

Damn, now I'm hungry--I couldn't talk the lady-frend into getting a snack while my clothers were in the dryer.

Uh, the question was about d-i-n-e-r-only meals, not d-i-n-n-e-r-only!

Here in St. Louis we have a thing called a Slinger. It may be around in other parts of the country, but most people have never heard of it.

There are a couple of ways to do it, but here is an ideal Slinger...

First you get a plate with 2 hamburger patties covered with cheese, two fired eggs and a side of hash browns. Then you cover cover the entire plate with chili, enough to cover all of the other ingredients. Top with cheese and onions and viola. The best freaking food ever.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I don't know that Winnipeg really has diners... least not round here. There's like... burger joints... but aside from those you don't see many small restaurants that aren't part of some sort of chain. Though there are some... either way... I don't know... french fries are good just about anywhere.

pure diner food. would stop the heart of lesser man before he got out of the seat.

they have my favorite little diner in the link.

The Fleetwood Diner in Ann Arbor, MI.

One of those places where I bet the people who work there don't know who has the key, since I can't recall the last time it was closed (other than the remodel they did about 4 years ago). Utterly 24 hours, the late night crowd (homeless types, bar crowd, punk rockers, etc) adds up to a good time, always. Their baskets of fries are big enough for 3 people, and they serve a decent tempeh burger. Being able to feed a veg food craving at 3am is a good thing.

There's nothing specifically diner-only about why I like the fleetwood, I just like it.

Your Club Diner is beautiful.

I can't remember the last time that I was at a diner.

I would say a Gusburger, Motorburger, or Grillswith from the White Spot in Charlottesville, VA, or a Garbage Plate from Nick Tahou's in Rochester, NY.

Breaded chicken strips w/ gravy, Texas toast, steak fries, and a slice of coconut cream pie.

and fresh coffee.

I get that every time at the diner in my hometown. Actually, it's a lunch counter at the local drug store... but it's the closest thing to a diner (or a restaurant) that we had in that small town.

Angelo's coney dogs are the best in the known Universe. Don't even attempt to eat there between 2 am to 4 am.
