So I've been on the netflix '3 at a time' plan for a long time, and it's been great. Since I'm canning my cable service, I was thinking since that having more movies around the house would be a good thing. So I went to upgrade to 5 at a time, thinking it would be ~$25/month, but it's $30. After a little crazy arithmetic, I realized that they don't offer discounts for having more movies. 3 at a time to 8 at a time all cost $6 per movie.

Anybody know why this is? Why wouldn't they offer a couple bucks discount?

Um. Because thats not how it works...

If movies were sent in sets in one box, then maybe.

But every DVD is it's own shipment, this its own shipping price for netflix to send out.

The more ability you have to get movies sent to you, the more they will have to spend to ship the DVDs.

Someone who has a higher out-at-a-time plan is more likely to have a higher turn around rate too, thus more DVDs shipped out and back in a month's time.

So wouldn't I be better off getting a second '3 at a time' account for another $18 and avoid getting throttled? Are accounts with more discs less likely to get throttled?

Hmmmm. I would *hope* that a bigger account would not be throttled like a high turn-around standard account.

I did some more research, and it looks it costs netflix about $2 to send and receive a movie. So I would assume it's pretty linear. Pay twice as much, receive twice as many movies without throttling whether it's one account at 6 movies, or two accounts at 3 out each.
