How many pre production units are normally out? That means, can MS really track down, which employers kid had leaked the photos?

I think it is rather funny. I hope the final unit won't have a giant power supply though.

Apparently his step dad just started working for Microsoft under the title of Regulatory Compliance Manager.
Shouldn't be too hard for them to track down the leak.

Heheh. Today I'm going shopping for my first console in a very long time. I'm getting one of those joysticks that has a bunch of 80s arcade games in it.
Haven't decided yet if I'm gonna get an Xbox 360/Revolution/PS3 yet. I skipped all the last consoles since most of the games I liked were PC games anyway.
It'd be interesting how much work was done on that Halo 2 though to get it to work.

I hope that dumbass kid who posted leaked pics of himself didn't just get his father fired.

how fired is he really? he didn't really disclose anything, just that he had one... it's not like it's specs or design are unknown. he didn't release any code.

Nvidia has already said the GPU isn't ready.

The Gamecube is so crap, I would say that its the second worst games console, after the DS of course. Who would want to play children's games like Zelda when they can have a sleek, sexy console like the PS3 which is for people who have actually grown up and aren't living in their parents' basement. All you will be able to do with the Revolution is play Mario and if you are very lucky, Nintendo will include internet access so you can check your E-Harmony account in between levels.

That machine is smaller than a current xbox.
No, seriously. Haven't you guys ever seen the side by sides? Maybe I'm just seeing things, but the early pics compared it to an xbox being JUST smaller..
I'll probably do the same damn thing again this gen - Revolution and 360. I couldn't give a #@($*&% about Sony's offerings.
Tis' all about Sonic and Zelda.

The 360 IS smaller, at least in two of the three dimensions; I don't recall if it's not as thick, but it is indeed shorter and narrower. The difference is about 10mm in both depth and width.
The picture looks like crap, and it was taken without sufficient light, so the depth of focus doesn't tell you anything. The box itself is very close to the camera, and the kid is much farther away, so without enough depth information you can't make the leap to see where the items in the picture are relative to each other. It's just an optical illusion.

Yes, it does look like the Dell, but it is smaller.
Darn Dell; they use a proprietary motherboard in the GX240 and similar models, and these don't support full-size PCI cards. That means I can't use one of their very nice, very small cases to build a PVR...RATS!
But anyway, the resemblance is quite close.

It is smaller but not by much. It also curves in the middle which gives the illusion of being smaller. Personally I think it is ugly especially next to the PS3.
They tried soooo hard to do everything the opposite of the original Xbox that it doesn't even look like a game station anymore. It looks like that PC posted above and with these stupid faceplates it looks like PC modding.

The PS3 looks like a PS2 Spiderman Edition.

the kid has apparently posted a comment
"Guys, I hate to say this, but that is not real. I am the kid in the pictures. I had my friend take the pictures. We then proceeded to photoshop them. I repeat they are not real. My dad does work for Microsoft. however, but only in the marketing department and does not have the ability to recieve the XBox360 for beta testing. I even questioned him a couple times as to if he was able to recieve an XBox360 for beta, but he denied each time that he was not allowed. Sorry for the mix up.. I just wanted to pull a huge prank, and I did just that and am sorry for everything. Once again, the pictures are all fake. Sorry.

heh. yeah right, "photoshopped." It probably is something, whether its a working model or not, but I highly doubt he photoshopped them. There is a way i could be convinced they are, but it sounds to me like he is just covering his ass... or trying to at least.
The thing is ugly. Mac style? I wouldn't be surprised if they tried. But thats all they can do... try.

I wouldn't be surprised if this just a publicity stunt put on by Microsoft. Nothing's really revealed in the pictures so it hasn't really hurt Microsoft, but they're getting people all over the internet to talk about it.
Covert marketing schemes are becoming more and more popular these days. It's not about having 'ads', it's just about maintaining mind-space with the consumer, and for how cheap it is to put some kid a room with a xbox360 demo unit and a consumer digital camera for a half hour... pretty cheap; pretty effective.
It's like the stolen audi a3 commercials. Posed as a "oops we ****ed up and lost a brand new unreleased car", and you get people to remember what you're selling.

Lucky kid if it's real, but bad for his step-dad. Although two things are bothering me....Why is the apartment/house so damn empty looking? Also, if you had access to an Xbox 360 would your prime choice for a tv be a 12" (or whatever it is) POS? This seems more like a stupid hype building attempt more than anything else.
