I just got a powerbook a month ago.

It might just be too much computer for me. I think I might get an ibook (espically if they update).

It still has 11 months on the year warranty, but how does the buyer prove it? Do I have to send them my receipt from apple or is it on record with them?

I haven't registered the computer yet. Can they just do it that way?

But if I did register it, what would they do?

Thank you.

I think apple can check on a computer warranty by its serial number, so giving someone else the info wouldn't really matter.

Also, keep your Powerbook. They're so nice. You'll want it down the road.

The new owner needs a copy of the receipt for the 'book.

Apple can estimate a "predicted sales date" via the serial number, but if push comes to shove and you're close to the predicted date (or you know you bought it later and it had been sitting in the store for an extra two weeks), you're going to need a receipt to get warranty repairs.

If you register it, they think that that is the date you bought it as long as it is not too long a time. I had that discussion with them as I registered a new computer when I was calling their support about another one. When that newly registered one had a failure a year and one day after my registration, they noted the day late and fixed it free anyway........ So, register it now online. sam

Shouldn't I just like the new owner register it, if I do choose to sell it?

And I guess I'll include a copy of the receipt then.

A receipt is required for proof.

If it's registered already, go here: http://www.apple.com/support/

Scroll Down and enter the serial number. It will show how long the warranty is left on the device.
If you have not registered it, you need to have the receipt or a copy of it printed.

I entered the serial number and it says:

Our records indicate that your product is covered under Apple’s Limited Warranty and your estimated date of purchase was 19-Jun-05. Based on this data, your product will be covered by Apple service warranty for 326 more days.
You can still purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan for this product
Visit the PowerBook G4 support website to learn more about your PowerBook G4

I guess that means the new owner would be covered and doesn't need the receipt, right?

Thank you.

Yep. You have to have the information "LINK" set to yours instead of his now.

I'd go into a store, tell them, and have them enter the "LINKED" data to you instead of him. A receipt would be helpful. A receipt would probably be helpful.
