So, I'm watching something on the TV the other night where two guys are talking...

"I got to third base with her"

...and it occurred to me that while I know they're on about how far they got with the girl in question, I've no idea what these "bases" represent.

Someone American care to explain?

Not sure if things have changed... but when I was in school...

1st base = swapping spit
2nd base = up the shirt
3rd base = down the pants
Homerun = get to smoke a cig.

One wonders. Although first base and the infamous homerun are pretty constant no matter where you go, the definitions of second and third base tend to change from place to place and time to time.

Well, basically, because later on in life, very often you directly do a homerun after first base
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I prefer to steal 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and home on occasion...

In fact, I can guarantee that I've been around the bases more than anybody else around here!
