It's pretty late in my neck of the woods and recent events got me to thinking. What is the absolute worst pain that you have experienced.
Few years ago I got clocked in the face and it resulted in a broken tooth. Dentist did his best to repair the damage but it looks like it wasn't quite good enough. I have a sweet little abscess brewing and some of the worst pain I think I've ever experienced to date. It's worse than being stabbed.
I've been through half a bottle of vicodin, several drinks, ibuprofen, oragel and this bastard is still bringing me to my knees. For that.. I think those stupid little nerves in my tooth deserve a metal.. or something. Impressive for such a tiny little collection of cells.

The worst pain I have ever experienced is tooth pain also. I had a cracked tooth that I didn't know about and it eventualy became infected. The pain had me awake for days and had me in tears plenty of times. I finally got a root canal after the infection was eliminated with anti-biotics. The root canal was sweet bliss as they numbed my whole head (quite a feat you'd understand if you've seen my melon).
A close second would be when I slipped on some wet stairs while in college and twisted my ankle. Within minutes it had swelled to about the size of my head (don't you love these comparisons?). Couldn't put any weight on it for a week.

My worst experience with pain was short term pain rather than long, protracted pain.
I had a terrible fracture of my fibula while playing soccer in '98. The bone completely snapped in half. It was a simple break because the thing just snapped in 2 pieces, but a serious injury nonetheless.
When I went to the ER, the doctor asked me to rate the pain from 1-10. I honestly said it felt like a mothersmurfing 20 on the scale. He just laughed and got the nurse to shoot me up with morphine. 8 hours, one operation, metal plate and 6 screws later, I was good as new.

I had a receding gumline, so I underwent a process that involved jabbing my palette with a poking device in a circular pattern and removing the chunk of skin and then sewing that chunk to my front bottow gum. The procedure was bliss because as Railroader said they had managed to numb my entire head with novacaine.
As the drugs wore of it felt like I had a gaping sore in the room of my mouth (they couldn't have taken it from somewhere less painful?). And in the following days when I was able to eat I would try my best to avoid jabbing any food into it as it hurt like a thousand flaming spears. Chips were hell in a handbag to eat, but I ate them anyways. While on work break I munched a Pringle and it jammed directly into the sore, which was so painful I had a headache for the rest of the day.
Eating was un-enjoyable for a few months, worst. thing. evar.

Funny, before I clicked the thread I thought "tooth ache".
Some dimwit dentist drilled the wrong tooth, and the infected one got even worse...woke up in the middle of the night and drove myself to the store to buy some clove based pain killer, because the pain was so bad.
That and serious sinus headaches.

Being 8 years old and getting in a car accident that resulted in a knot on the left side of my forehead that was so big that I could see it out of the corner of my eye.

When I was 17, my wisdom teeth were coming in and my TMJ was flaring up. After a couple of hours, the pain was bad enough that I literally just keeled over. Granted, maybe my tolerance for pain just wasn't all that hot back then, but I remember it being painful as ****.

Migraines - To a point where I throw up and come close to passing out, so severe I've been seeing specialists for 2 years... to no aid. No medication helps what-so-ever
Multiple Foot Surgeries - Better now, occasionally, pain so harsh I cry, seemingly out of no where, at the location of the surgery. Lasts 5-20 minutes, doesn't seem to respond to anything.

They can actually do that these days.
Although I'm suffering with a gum infection right now and it's hurting a tad, I think my major pain experience was cutting my right heel off in a bike accident. It didn't half smart.

Migraine pain has been the worst I've ever felt. It's made me weep like an infant because there's nothing to do about it (until the meds kick in) and you just want to eat a bullet because you really think that at any moment, blood will drip from your eyes, nose and ears as your brain begins to burst out of your skull. It's had me huddled on the floor in a fetal position, rocking like a lunatic, throwing up because the pain is so horrific. It's been the worst because until the meds start working (sometimes it takes a few doses to get relief) you're just totally and completely helpless.
I don't recommend them to anyone.

Reading through through these posts... I begin to realize, DAMN I've had it freaking easy!!
The worst pain I can think of is probably a while back when a sliding door hit my elbow. I'm not sure what happened, but it felt like it hit a nerve or something, but a sting/shock sensation ran up all the way through to my fingertips... its happened a number of times after that, but its never really been that painful, except for that first time.
..either that or sometimes if I rotate my knee too far inward it gets kind of stuck... trying to move it back is excrucating, and sometimes moving it back is subconscious and very quick. Loud-ass "crack" noise and shitloads of pain. But if I don't successfully move it back to the straight position, if I just kind of let it sit for a while it unlocks.... how odd. (This mostly happens to me while sitting "indian-style.")

Interesting. Broke my fibula as well, and the post-surgery pain was WAY worse than the injury pain itself. Besides it lasted for 18h, and that stupid wimpy useless Percocet POS sure did not do anything to stop it. Oh and yeah that was the worst pain i had been in, by far.

Yeah, the post surgery pain was bad too, but nowhere as bad as the initial fracture pain.
First break pain = 20/10
Post surgery pain = 7 - 8/10 (5/10 with morphine)
After they took me off the morphine, they put me on some other oral painkiller, which was dispensed liberally but didn't seem all that effective.
But as I said, the WORST pain was the moments before I reached the ER. WORST PAIN EVAR....
Hope your fibula is doing good now villalobos.
I had my plate and screws out in '99 after 1 year of rehab.

Heh, me too.
The worst pain I've experienced is braces... I had the top tightened and the bottom put on at the same time. That night and following day is a blur. I remember crying and crying and cring cos It just hurt that much. Thank goodness for Nurofen Plus, that took the sting out of the pain. I couldn't eat either.
Second to that is probably waking up with cramps in both legs. I know you can stop them by stretching the muscle and bending back the foot, but the muscles in my foot seemed to be cramping too so I my ankle joint was locked. I just had to sit it out for 2 minutes. It was excruciating.
I'm training to be a dancer so I'm sure in the future I'll do some sort of painful injury to my body. I just hope its not soon.

Thinking more about this, I remember the paramedics telling me that I couldn't go to sleep that night because they were scared I would go into a coma.
Oh and there was that time I got hit by a car when I was 4. I don't remember the pain though.

my worst pain was probably when I went out to a hill-station and there was no bathroom. MAN! you can now imagine how I lived there for three days.

Intestinal blockage, absolutely the worst kind of pain I've ever felt. A combination of bad food and rushed eating over several weeks can do that to you, and it feels like your guts are going to expand and pop like a balloon.
Right up there with the blockage is burn pain. I had a propane water heater "blow out" on me when I tried to light it; the fireball was huge and it got my left hand really well. (It took off my eyebrows, too, and my face was well away from the opening.) It hurt so badly that tylenol 3 (that has a LOT of codeine in it) didn't touch it. I also found out that codeine and I don't get along well, as when I got up the next morning after very little very poor sleep I had the worst hangover I've ever had.
On the short term, I had some relatively minor oral surgery once, the removal of a damaged salivary gland in my lower lip, and the post-op pain was excruciating. It lasted for several hours then dulled to an ache. By the next day it was really minor.

Tooth pain for me as well. Wisdom tooth got infected. I drank lots and took almost any pain killer I had in the house and it would only numb the pain for about a half hour. Called the dentist at 8am on a Sunday and he gave me a prescription for antibiotics and pain killers. This is when I found out that Tylenol with Codeine gives me headaches. I got my teeth pulled about 3 weeks later and one of the old wisdom places started developing a dry socket. I got it double.

It's a tossup between an abscessed tooth I had, and a nasty spill I took wakeboarding which resulted in a ruptured ear drum and almost blacking out.

I'm ok with pain. My wife was in the hospital with chronic severe pain for no apparent reason... it was a reaction to prednesone... swelling of her joints, and nothing stopped the pain.
8 days of screaming... she was put on demerol, morphine, etc... only ice packs helped.
It was a nightmare watching her go through it with tears for hours and hours on end. Some idiot doctor actually prescribed more prednisone for her, and I almost took his head off as I just caught them administering it.... You've never seen an angrier man.

My dad got hit in the face and the whole front half of his top middle tooth fell off exposing the nerve. Air hurt.
Best part he was on a boat in the middle of the ocean with no dentist for days.

I have had three pains in my life that have been the worst, in order:
1. When I was 18, I accidently drank a pint of sour milk. Didn't realize it until it was too late. I quickly found myself on the bathroom floor, curled up into a ball. The pain was so bad I wanted to die, I mean, if someone had come into the bathroom and asked me what I would rather do, die or suffer the pain I was feeling, I would have said shoot me, without hesitation. It's the only time I've felt that way.
2. Broken molar. Tha pain was so bad, I just wanted to rip my jaw off. This was the time I was first given Vicodin by the doctor. OOO la la, Vicodin!
3. A couple of years ago a stomach virus swept through the region, the Norfolk virus that made everyone sick on those cruise ships, or as a friend called it, "Three short steps from the sweet release of death", that had me on my back, unable to even drink water without having a bout of severe intestinal cramping and other nastiness. I didn't know what was worse, the intense cramps, the vomitting or being thirsty and not being able to drink anything.

This reminds of my severe intolerance for Lactose.
If I were to drink a pint of milk right now my entire day/night would be ruined with awfulness much like you describe. Once while hungover my buddies were going to the store, I asked them to pick me up a Sobe so as a joke they got me a pint of milk

DAM, that is some intense Sh!t. I'd rather not druge memories of physical pain.
With polio, broken bones and a bad tooth at high elavations, I'm just not going to go down that road... ah sh!t.

My grandmother, God bless her, told me about a toothache that she had that was so bad that she actually went down to the lake, Lake Michigan, and she stood in the water at the edge of the lake in March where the ice had thawed, because the pain from the freezing cold water was better than the pain in her jaw. She said it was the only thing that could help her: Displacing one pain for another.
So the consensus is that jaw or tooth pain is pretty much the worst, apparently.
