There is a hidden sex scene or mini game locked in GTA:SA, and the governing body just got wind of it, so SA is off the shelves for a period while the make a version without this in it. Anyone found what this part is?

yeah, the infamous hot coffee thing. See,.... basically, it was originally part of the game, but I have a feeling they removed it at the last minute. Some people enabled it on the PC by snooping around the game's inner workings. I think it's ********, because I'm sure everyone here remembers the 'nuderaider' patches floating around for Tombraider, and all sorts of crap like that. If a normal person playing the game can't see it without hacking the game, big freakin deal. If said person is smart enough to find out how to hack the game to see this stuff, then they're obviously able to see all sorts of things on the internet, so upping the rating on this game is fairly pointless and stupid.

What boggles my mind, is that in a game that casts you as a murderous gang member and drug dealer... that people are all of a sudden upset over a consensual sex scene between two adults.
Seriously, you could start up a game, drive around, kill some people with a bat, kill a hooker, sell some drugs, start killing cops, blow up a building with a plane, kill some more people... and then when you go back to your apartment to have sex with a girl the government gets pissed about it?
What? I know it's well established that our priorities and moralities are out of whack in this country but this is sooo ridiculous that it hurts my brain.

Yep, the irony is there. It's an unfortunate state of affairs that it even has to be pointed out.

Right on the money. Decapitating cops with a sniper head shot is ok, but don't show any titties!
The GTA series are some of my favorite games, I should add.

No, there is a difference. With the nuderaider patches the game's code was being altered. Functionality was being added that was not designed by the original developers.
With Hot Coffee, the whole sex thing was coded by the developers and made part of GTA. Instead of actually removing the code, Rockstar was lazy and simply threw a flag in the game that disabled it. All these mods are doing is going into RAM and changing the flag back. You can even do it on the PS2 version.
Here is another example. Let's say Blizzard hid a sex mini game in World of Warcraft. At the last minute they decided to disable instead. Instead of actually pulling it from the code, they just sealed off the sections of the world that had it. People going in with World of Warcraft map viewers (and they do exist, and they do find things Blizzard has hidden) could actually find this explicit content. Blizzard has loaded to explicit content on user's hard drive. It is now pressent on the user's machine. With the proper viewer, the user can now look at it. No different than if you download a jpg and open it up with the proper viewer. Rockstar loaded blatent sexual content on a users harddrive. All the user is using is the proper viewer to run it. It's just like loading a sexual jpg or movie on the hard drive.
Legally, Rockstar is completely in the wrong here. They should have removed the code.

It's like the program A.D.A.M., on installation you can choose the man and woman to be nude. Otherwise they use a fig leaf.

Why is sex and nudity such a taboo in the US? The US and Europe do share a religious and cultural heritage, but there is an obvious difference in the two peoples' attitude towards sex.
Seems a bit odd.

Hugi I am not sure if it's even a religious thing.
Take Al Gore's wife Tipper. She wanted all those rap records banned or labeled because of the sexual connotation.

Yes, obvious cultural differences, I'll say .
This would definitely make an interesting study, that is, to find the cultural roots of this taboo. And I'd love to know if it's natural behaviour for humans to only have sex in private or if our restraint is only due to thousands of years of indoctrination.

Hugi sex in private? I think that has more to do with common sense.
And as far as sex being taboo. I would say it stems from the puritans.

Can there be any such thing as common sense regarding sex? Not too long ago, kissing in public was considered unacceptable in most of the western world (and some still think it is). Hell, even sex in private was somewhat sinful in Victorian England . Is it possible that sex will follow kissing and people will be "grabbing a quickie" at the park in the future?

Hugi while having sex in public may seem to be a fetish to some, would you really want it to be something that regularly happened?
It's annoying enough that my dog tries to hump everything.

But I agree with the violence thing. People see so much, they begin to get used to it.
We shouldn't want society to have a tolerance to violence.

No. But my beliefs have nothing to do with it. What I'd like to know is if the inhibitors that prohibit us from having sex in public are purely forced by society or if there is some deeper reason for it. My uneducated opinion is that it's the former. I could envision a society where I'd be eating lunch, looked through the window and thought to myself "well, there the Gundersons are, going at it again like rabbits in the garden".
Anyway, sorry for the derail - I was just thinking out loud.

I'd like to think that they're looking out for us, and they realized that there'd be no way to ensure that only hot chicks were doing it.

Seems a bit odd.
America was founded mostly by puritans from Europe whose haunting, innermost fear was that somewhere, someone might be happy.

Actually, the puritans granted divorces to women if their husbands wouldn't have sex with them. The puritans believed sex was crucial to marriage.

The "haunting fear that someone, somewhere might be happy" bit is an H.L. Mencken quote.

but outside of marriage or adultery was seriouly frowned upon. Remember the Scarlet Letter.
GTA rules, its bizarre though that in the US distribution channels will refuse to sell a game that is Adult only, the title is rated 18 over here and you can buy it in any shop that sells video games.
And how can some naked or explicit sexual content be worse than as people have already stated, stealing a bike, chopping off a hooker's head with a katana before going on a rampage in the subway with a flamethrower before going down in a hail of bullets?

How come the AO rating is seen as this awful, terrible, mind-corrupting dreck, but the difference between it and an M rating is only 1 year? Do they believe that enough maturity is developed between the ages of 17 and 18 that people will be magically less-corrupted by it?

They do think that magically at the age of 18 you are able to know what's right from wrong, but at age 17 you're not sure yet. Same thing with the drinking age and other arbitrary ageist rules.

It's the difference between "R" and "NC-17". Most stores won't carry a game that gets an "AO", just like most theaters won't play movies that get an "NC-17".
There are also rules about how you can advertise them.

Anyone remember Leisure Suit Larry "Love For Sale" ?
It has similar cheats. You got to see the twins upside naked or something.
It had to do with hairspray I believe. It was also a "hidden cheat"
