So I got a new 2005 Alpine head unit for my car for my birthday. I went out and purchased the iPod Ai-Net piece and the Sirius Ai-Net piece. The Sirius unit has a passthrough port, so it allows you to hook the iPod up to it directly. The whole thing is so damn smooth.
Turn the Unit ON - FM/AM Radio
- 3 sets of 6 preset channels to choose from
- Upon initial setup, you can associate words with the channel, so now when I hit the button for 106.7, instead it says "KROQ" and 971. is "FM Talk Station" and 100.3 is "The Beat", etc.
Press the Source Button - CD Player
- Plays CDs, Mp3 CDs, etc.
- Has support for nested Mp3 CDs, so if you have folders on the CD, you first choose your folder and then can play songs just in that folder. Not sure if other CD players do that.
- Reads the ID3 tags and displays song name and artist
Press the Source Button again - Sirius Satellite Radio
- Has support for three sets of 6 preset channels, doesn't intermingle with the FM/AM Radio
- Great selection of music, Top 40, R&B, Rap, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, CNN Headline News, Dedicated LA Traffic Station, Left Wing Talk Channel, Symphony, Jazz, Big Band. All of it sounds fantastic.
- Three dedicated channels for NHL. Promises 40 games a week when the season starts up again in late September. CAN'T WAIT!
- Howard Stern in January!
Press the Source Button again - iPod
- Scrolls the playlist names across the head unit, choose the playlist and then listen to your music
- Works exactly like the iPod works. Also a great addon.
The whole thing is just seamless and works! I love it. Very very easy installation. The Ai-Net interface from Alpine is only one cord that goes from the iPod to the unit, one cord from the unit to the Sirius, and one cord from the sirius to the headunit. They did for car stereo what ADC did for Apple Displays! Highly Recommend this setup!
