Question for those with ADD

K.... I just went on medication again... and... there's a side effect... but not really a big deal. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this. When I'm on my medicine, my dick feels ... smaller. Like, not shrinkage, but you know how if you get a little cold, it kinda ..eh... shrinks a little bit? I'm now like that when I'm just doing whatever. My hypothesis is that since ADD= frontal lobe isn't firing as often, and the medicine makes it fire more, that the blood flow is getting diverted from my penis to my brain.
Is that possible? Anyone else have similar symptoms?

That'd be known as the sexual side effects that are printed on the bottle

That would be an issue of perception, not blood flow. Contrary to popular belief, there IS enough blood in a man to run both the penis and the brain at once. It's just that when the penis is all fired up, most of us don't bother with the brain.
What med is it?

Strattera does that. Never noticed a stimulant do that.

Well it isn't a sexual side effect, because it still WORKS just fine, and it still gets plenty big, but it's when it's not doing anything, just hanging out in my boxers. It just seems less... big. I don't think it's perception though, because normally when I'm off medication, it's not shrinkaged at all. It's just sorta 'there'. Now it's a bit smaller. And no, this isn't a joke.

What meds are you using? Many psych meds have an effect on ......
For instance Seroxat can make it impossible for the man(don't know about the women) to have an orgasm. Most of these side-effects are just temporary. But if you could tell me what meds it is I could look it up tomorrow at work.
Hope they help you

Isn't this better left to be asked of a medical professional instead of a bunch of Mac geeks with too much time on their hands?

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

Dude, it doesn't matter what the doc says. This isn't a big deal at all, as long as things still work when I need them too. I just knew there were other ADD people on this board. As for the drug, I'm taking straight amphetamine, or generic riddalin.

Of course. Should have figured that out myself.
A very short explanation(just ask if you want a more detailed one):
Amphetamine has an effect on your bloodflow(increased heart rate, increased bloodpressure). One of the reasons of the increased bloodpressure is not as often thought the increased heartrate but rather vasoconstriction(contraction of the blood vessels). And as you can guess vasoconstriction leads to less blood reaching .... the vital organ that you are talking about And less blood means "lesser size".
Nothing to worry about but always good to understand the side-effects.

For the record, this phenomenon can also happen in moments of tension, particularly when the fight-or-flight impulse is going. Some people think that this accounts for the somewhat disproportionate anatomy of Michaelangelo's David; the statue depicts him getting ready to fight Goliath, which would certainly cause a lot of tension. Ergo, "shrinkage".
It's fairly likely that the medication you're taking is just triggering that same reaction. Nothing is actually shrinking; your blood vessels are tightening up a bit, that's all. The phenomenon is being triggered in an unusual way, but it's still a natural phenomenon, one your body has experienced before and "knows" how to deal with. Everything will still work when you need it to, and this effect shouldn't apply at that time. If it continues to bother you, then you might want to consider practicing meditation or another kind relaxation exercise; that should help counter the effect somewhat.
I am not a psychiatrist. I just happened to stumble upon an article explaining the David theory some time ago, and it went into the phenomenon in a fair amount of detail.

I always thought it was because Michaelangelo was trying to not be too obvious with his orientation...
Anyway, considering the supposed mechanism of some ADD meds, Stratera in particular, this is a very good, very plausible explanation. I've managed to get by with caffiene and hard work (I've never been diagnosed, but when the shrink went step-by-step through her diagnosis of our son, I was ticking off the indicators in myself the whole way...yep, that's me), so I don't have personal experience with Stratera.

Ah. Thanks! I knew I wasn't crazy, but it's nice to know that there's a reason for this.

Why? I asked my friends with ADD about it... one of them was on stratera and he couldn't stop peeing as well. He was sorta dribbler, and it drove him nuts so he quit taking it. He didn't have the shrinkage thing though.
Personally, I don't give a rat's ass at all. I mean, it could be the size of a AAA battery when not in use, as long as it gets fullsize on demand. It might even get hit less often if it was smaller.

That you think it's something to laugh about that other people suffer from various disabilities/illnesses speaks volumes about you as a person.
