I know it's a bit random, but the recent posts about shaving and sexual preferences made me think of something that happened recently.

A 'fling' that I had suggested that as a straight bloke I should trim downstairs, or perhaps more.

I've spoken to a male friend who's girlfriend likes him to shave smooth downstairs, and he even trims his arm-pit hair with the hot weather...

Is this becoming the metrosexual thing to do?

I'm tempted to try it, but worried that if I get involved with a different girl she might think it a little gay?! (I'm sorry if that seems stereotypical, I don't mean to cause offense, but not sure how else to describe it)

I know there is a very varied community on here, so would welcome peoples comments - and that means if you like it or not too girls.

don't do it, trust me - trimming is one thing, but don't shave.

There's only one MAJOR problem with shaving any area you're used to having normally hirsute: regrowth. The ends ITCH like you wouldn't believe!

I got partially shaved for an appendectomy that never happened (it turned out to be some other problem), and when it grew back-even just to the "5 O'clock Shadow" stage, it was HORRIBLE!

He's right. It sure does itch. I'd recommend just trimming with some sharp hair scissors. Dull ones will pull your hair.

Would everyone stop with the mental images. There might be kids reading this thread. Just kidding. Basically do what the women want that you can put up with. This is no different than eating tofu. I go through big pains to eat tofu to make my girlfriend happy. Shaving downstairs though is too much though, like giving up steak or something else crazy.

Things are not so black and white with regards to underarm hair. On the one hand, I dislike the look underarm hair, but on the other hand, guys with shaved underarms don't look so hot either.

Trimming I suppose is the best answer.

There are some aspects in which femininity serves a man well. A man with a feminine face and a feminine hairstyle can look quite good, but when you start talking about shaving, you are getting into uncharted territory. Body hair might look better if you trim it a bit, but shaving it all is very hard to pull off. Chances are you will end up either looking like a hairless child or a vain fitness nut.

I trim my underarm hair short. No razor to the skin. It doesn't look right.

Down there I'll do the sack with a razor and trim the rest. I use one of those beard trimmers with the adjustable guard for that as well as the underarms.

I think it feels a lot better but maybe I'm just used to it. I do know I don't get any hairs tugged on at various times by the jeans anymore.

News for ya. As a gay man I am privilege to information girls normally only tell each other.... woman HATE hairy crotches. They think wieners are strange enough on their own but they don't like having to part pubic hair just to get at it. Trust me.

And if you are scared your girlfriend will think you are gay or have to hang out with that "Crotch shaving crowd" afterwards you are bonkers to say the least.

this might go without saying, but never shave against the direction of hair growth. this will cause it to be really smooth, but when it's growing back it's going to be horrible.

i keep mine well groomed down there, and have had no issues with itchiness or anything.

I guess it's a bit of an age-releated thing. I never met any girl that didn't like it bald. However, they were all between 17 and 24. I don't know how old your target audience will be, but the younger girls sure love it and will not find it a metrosexual thing. My 2ct.

But as other have already stated, you have to do it on a regular basis, every two days does the trick.

Use hair removal cream. It works great, and avoids the possible nicks.

But NEVER use hair removal cream on your nuts or even peter. Read the instructions, ALL of them say the same thing, Not to be use for pubic hair area. That and it burns.

I like to keep things clean down there... but I don't like to shave (too itchy), and a lot of maintenance.

So I trim, it’s not hard to do, just watch out for the testicles, don't want to clip them. (Sorry for the mental image guys) If you do shave, shave only the testicles, and trim the rest. Regular shaving of your testicles will prevent most itchiness. If you shave above the penis, you can possibly get ingrown hairs, and that’s very uncomfortable. Furthermore it’s quite itchy.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Someone that has to part their hair to get at the penis has a serious problem.

I stay with "original equipment." I'm furry but not so furry that there's any doubt where certain structures are. (I like women with "original equipment" too-it's an interesting bit of variety.)

This trend to remove pubic hair is somewhat bothersome to me; what's to be squeemish about? It's part of how the body works, and it's been part of "original equipment" since people started being people. The last large social "pubic hair removal" fad seems to have been in the Middle Ages, when crab lice was rampant-and they invented a pubic toupe, called a "merkin" (no I am NOT making this up) to cover the fact that they shaved to conquer the pests. Hopefully that's not what's driving today's fad!

There were a lot of pretty people in some of those films (of course Ron Jeremy showed up in some of the later ones, and as far as I'm concerned he's a one-person abstinence campaign!), and they sometimes even tried to act! And yes, there was quite a lot of pubic hair in those films. But I never saw anyone who seemed to be a challenge for finding their naughty bits because of it.

I trim both my armpits and pubes.

Advice: NEVER shave down there when hot sweaty weather is approaching. You'll get nasty ingrown hairs/irritation and it'll look like you have reached the late stage of some nasty STD

I'm with you. I can understand trimming, but shaving everything? That just seems like an unnecessary hassle to me. Pubic hair is my "I passed puberty" merit badge.

I think i've decided to go for the trimming option...

I picked up a philips bodygroom today from boots and it seems to do the trick for tidying things up downstairs...

I think i'll take this one step at a time... get used to it being neat, perhaps try the Dr Evil look in the future...

The one who's able to read is clearly in advance. I just misread "sweaty weather" with "sweaty water", sorry.

But still, I never have any irritations at all. I must be lucky on this one...
