I golf for fun. Always have to borrow clubs and stuff, and I don't keep score. I don't get people who are serious about it... you are hitting a ball with a stick. Who gives a ****? Just have a good time.

Golf is fun... but some people take it WAY too serious. I find it's great with a six-pack.

Love golf. Used to have a 16 handicap, but I haven't played much for the past several years.

I just started playing a month or two ago. It's addictive. A lot of my "computer budget" has gone towards new golf crap. Oops. No new monitor for me this summer. :-)

I abhor golf. It really is a good walk spoiled.

When I was first asked if I wanted to be in the company golf tournament, my reply was "I've never golfed before, but I'll give anything a try once. Can I borrow someone's golf sticks for the tournament? Oh, wait, they're really called bats, aren't they, my bad....". I haven't been asked again since.

It really is an addiction, once you start getting good and actually get a swing that doesn't look weird, you just can't stop yourself.

I also seem to be spending too much money on golf stuff, just bought an Odyssey 2-Ball putter.

I have a lot of friends and family members that golf and they all confuse me. To me it seems elitist and exclusive (not in the good way either), and I find the courses themselves to be a blight on the landscape and a terrible use of resources. I'm sure the run-off from all the fertilization is no party for the earth either.

No sir, I don't like it.

I prefer the driving range actually. There's something very satisifying about out driving some ****ign shmuck with $500 dollar clubs using a wood you picked up at good will for $3.

I guess that would be me.....

Some folks goto church on weekends... I go and beat the hell out of a little white ball. Very relaxing and a good time to hang with friends.

Hey Agasthya - you a big mickelson fan? My golf buddy is a freaking nut for him.... I consider him a stalker.

Wanna play for money? No? That's why.... you just don't get it. Not everyone wants to hack at a ball and not get any better. Are you content being smart on paper only? I hope not...

you may not want to - but others like to thus their "seriousness" for the sport. But in general, you can be serious about any sport or hobby... not just golf.

I find it hard to take serious when people get so pissed off about hitting a ball with a stick. Plus, they claim they like being outside, but they run around in motorized carts. Walk for christ's sake!

Do you play pool?

Ball meet stick...

Hockey.... Puck meet stick....

Baseball... Ball meet stick....

Do I need to continue? Do you think before you post sometimes? The level of seriousness is directly proportionate to the skill level one wishes to achieve. From your remarks, I would assume you'd be happy being a simple hack. Nothing wrong with that, just don't be judging others desires, abilities, or reasonings. They drive carts because they CAN. Professionals walk with caddy in tow. Most amateurs who are serious about the game carry their own bags. Don't brush a group with such a broad stroke, unless of course you'd like to be brushed with one as something. (cough) cars - stationwagons fanboy (/cough)

EXACTLY! I don't understand why people get worked up about that **** either,b ut teh difference is they're just fans, not participants. I guess the 'haughty taughty'ness of golf just irritates me. Yay. You drive an 80K SUV and you spent a ton of money on your clubs. Wow. Go you. Even though your wife is cheating on your and your children are spoiled little brats that can't apply themselves and you have a little cross on your bumper proclaiming your christianity except you've never read the bible and you don't go to church except for Christmas, you are so awesome. I should respect you.

Blech. If golf were more like pool where it was just some people hanging out to have ag ood time, I'd like it a lot more.

Well I've seen all aspects of pool. You've got your bangers and your "haughty taughty" group that spends thousands on one stick of wood.... "Balabushkugh" for $20k...

It's a piece of WOOD.

Name a sport or hobby and you'll find a group that takes it way too seriously. Take you and your anti-SUV well to do attitude? Only your hobby matters and not someone who gets into SUVs or Trucks....

Edit:

I wanted to add, I am not against anyone being excited about their choice in cars, by all means it's great to have a hobby, but it's hard to take you seriously with all your tactics against those who can have the better (expensive) things in life, or enjoy a pastime which in your minds is limited to upper crust people. Golf is actually enjoyed by all classes financially, and is a great sport. One I would like to pick up one day... I just choose to spend my little pitance of extra income on other things like maybe taking my wife out. (Not much extra income to speak of.)
