evolving towards near immortality or exterme-life spans?

i think in the next 50-100 years average lifespans will cross 150 and beyond
So, that i think is going to be an important trend

you will have really old people with amazing wisdom or maybe a vegatable-like state which will be corrected gradually

this will allow us to fix all the problems of this world triggered by the previous generation.

there are so many rich folx that are funding a lot of research and investing into these technologies that this surely seems like the direction we will take for evolving, seem obvious to me.

just a dinner time idea that crossed my mind. What do you think?

As far as I know, age life span is supposed to start dropping very soon in the US due to obesity and such.

I'm not a scientist or anything, but it seems like we've been able to increase life span by a combination of modern medicine extending lives and also eradicating diseases that kill children (which lowers life expectancy a lot) but we're hitting a brick wall, where things like cancer, Alzheimers, etc. are killing people off as they grow older, and science can't do much about it.

So, I dunno. Maybe we will start living longer eventually, but I don't think the rise in life expectancy will be anything like the rate we've been seeing over the last century.

In general humans will get weaker, slower and/or dumber.

Why? People that would have died because they were too weak, slow or dumb will now live. Which means a smaller percentage of people will be the strong, faster and/or smarter ones. Which means the population will skew to weaker, slower and/or dumber people.

I think the greys (aliens) are along the lines of human development. Less hair. Greater mental abilities such as telepathy, greater visual and psychic perception. Greater gastrointestinal efficiency, but that's a while in coming.

With this modern "Penis size doesn't matter, guys!" movement, I'd be surprised if they didn't become stumps in the next thousand years. Then again, I'm sure we'll be extinct at that point.

I hear the biggest jump in human evolution will be to stop believing blindly in theories...

Aside from that... probably... an decrease in ethnic diversities as cultures begin to intermingle... we'll all be a lovely chocolate milk colour... well... we won't be... our great great great great.... great great grand kids will be.

I'm not even joking though... people with mixed blood are always better looking... I dono why. A guy at school was half Chinese half White, and something about the mix turned out really well, likewise a girl was half Japanese half Mennonite. She was a LOT prettier than either the Japanese girls or the Mennonite ones. And half black girls are always prettier...

Maybe it's just the fact that we get bored of seeing the same thing so mixes help... or perhaps it's cause the features that have so often been bread into prominence are some how smoothed down...

Consider this:

You're noticing that mixed race folks are good looking because you're noticing the good looking bit of them - i.e. plenty of average looking mixed race folks are walking right past you on a daily basis and you're just not noticing them because, hey, they're average and don't warrant your attention.

I don't think we're evolving. We have hospitals and medicine to help keep stupid people alive.

For instance, Billy Bob thinks it's a good idea to drink moonshine and then jump hills in his big 4X4 truck. He rolls it over. The hospital saves him, and he marries some dumb country bumpkin and reproduces. Darwin has just been screwed.

Lots of other examples.

Also, go take a drive through a ghetto or trailerpark. You'll see stupid ****ing people who obviously make dumb decisions in life ("I don't need no condom! I don't need no education! I don't need no high school diploma! I don't need no savings account!) walking around with like 4-8 kids. Now go to an upscale part of town. You'll see a family with 1-2 kids, MAYBE three, but that's rare.

It seems like the dumber people are, the more offspring they have. What effect this will have on evolution, I don't know, but it almost seems like there's going to be a large population of very dumb people, and a small population of smart people. Workers and thinkers? Who knows.

Dumb people have a lot of kids. Smart people don't seem to have a lot of kids. That's the problem. Part of me feels like impregnating as many girls as possible just to offset this situation, but without the ability to care for them, who knows what would happen.

People in third world countries who are having large numbers of children are shifting evolution in favor of their alleles. If humanity is the population under investigation then your mixing theory isn't really evolution because the allele frequencies stay the same over time. So humanity is browning but not for the reasons you mentioned.

The only hope for significant evolutionary change in humans is in isolated populations with significant selective pressures. Sadly recent technological innovations in transportation, navigation and technology have greatly reduced cultural and ethnic diversity across the globe as well as decreased selective pressure in previously "primative" areas. Our advanced brains have doomed us to these inappropriate, weak bodies and minds. Perhaps there is hope in genetic engineering.

I'd rather kow someone of average intelligence with patience for others, than an (on paper) intelligent jackass who can't be civil. There are many very intelligent people on these forums who also have patience with others who might be less intelligent or as well-read than them. I test extremely high in intelligence, but I'm not stupid enough to believe them.

There is no substitute for experience, which you are sadly lacking.

Me thinks that more dumber the population more violence and more deaths there will be due to such kinda of insanity, so thats self-correcting in a way. Of course at the other end of the scale you could be extremely smart and still decide to build your "nukilar" wmds. So a successful civilization will aim for wisdom that will aspire for peace through knowledge or explore other planets and seed them all.

BTW, that chik up there has huge feet indeed! and I don't think that is a particulary useful trait to select humans on.

Looks like I may be the closest to the true nature of the future of mankind....as this thread has proven.

Also, women will become breeders permanently bent over forward and their hands joined to their ankles. When you're done you just have them dry cleaned and hang them in the closet.

Actually, the lower IQ people are very nice to work with, unless they ride a Harely, Drive an SUV, and are just self-centered meatheads like my father-in-law... in that case, it's best to just humor them. You know, the same as the pseudo intillectual a-holes.

I tend to think of the IQ scale as of a clock.

Average is 6 o' clock, if you are way under (say 12.30) you are actually quite close to way over (11:30).
