We had a flood here at work a couple of weeks back... 2 G4/500s and several powerstrips were on the floor when the water came in. The water came above the hard drive. Since getting everything back together, we are afraid to turn on one G4 and the other comes on, but is acting freakish. One monitor may have been damaged by the power strip in the water as it shimmies now.

The question is... it looks like the insurance company is going to replace with new G5s and a new monitor, however they are wondering if we can provide something that says it is not worth repairing the 2 G4s. I'm not sure what to give them. Any thoughts?

They are like cars. Once flooded you have no idea what will fail shortly afterwards from corrosion. Actually if they are rinsed with pure distilled water to remove contaminants and then completely dried, they may work with minor repairs. Usually, it isn't worth it to use them as the potential loss is far greater than cost of a new computer. Get a repair estimate from a "repair shop" like a good local dealer that you know. (PS-If you aren't backed up or even if you are, the dealer will probably transfer the contents of the hard disks for you to new computers for a small fee. sam

Yes, do that. I've worked for a company that did estimates on damaged hardware for insurance purposes. I never saw an instance where the customer was unhappy with their settlement.
