I'm actually truly interested in this phone. The iPod shuffle KILLAR!!11-ness is nice, but more importantly it has a reasonably OK 2 Megapixel camera.

I will wait for the release of the iTunes phone before I decide what to buy though. The other option is the Sony Ericsson K750 (which has almost the exact same hardware as the W800).

In the meantime, I'm not buying an iPod shuffle.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for a new mobile phone, since I can only afford it in conjunction with a contract. Fortunately, my T610 is still a good phone. It has to hold up for one more year...

$600 phone. I can't do it. Neither can most people who wind up with Shuffles.

But after looking the phone over I definitely need to clean myself up.

True. Mind you the reason I considered a shuffle is because I don't carry my iPod mini everywhere. I do carry my phone everywhere. However a shuffle isn't small enough for a keychain like my USB flash drive is.

I won't pay US$600 for the W800, but I'd pay up to US$500 for it a month or so after release.

But after looking the phone over I definitely need to clean myself up.
Indeed.

And if you don't like that, there's always the K750i.

iPod's Shuffle Killer? I don't get it. Is it supposed to be an iPod that will kill Shuffles? Or something that kills Shuffles belonging to iPod? It doesn't even make sense if you get rid of the apostrophe.

Someone who shuffles as they kill iPods?

How exactly is a 600 dollar phone going to compete with a 100 dollar mp3 player?
Holy crap I'm going to totally prove my superiority by crushing this small child! Bwhaha!...

By being only $100-200 more than the phone you would have otherwise bought anyway of course.

They'll be giving that away for $199.00 with a 2 year contract on telephone services, where they will rape you blind in monthly charges and overage fees.

No way. It's not that good of a phone... no phone is.

If you want to listen to music get an iPod, if you want to use a phone, get a phone, if you want to take a flucking picture, get a freaking camera....

How lame are thesse idiotic multi-use devices.

What happens when the thing breaks or is lost? Great.

No camera
No music
No phone

You get to buy a new one....

I've got a great Microwave, Hairdryer, Toaster, Coffeemaker and DVD player in one for any marron that will buy this pwhoned.

I have an iPod (mini). I have a phone. I have a camera.

The W800 is sweet, and I'm gonna get one, or something like it.

What happens when the W800 breaks or is lost?

I still have my camera.
I still have my iPod.
I still have my old phone.

And I'll buy another camera/music player/phone.

wow, that looks nice. I'd like to try out the music player before I bought it though, to make sure it was easy to use. Not that I ever listen to my ipod these days, and it doesn't get much easier than that.

I'm gonna be in the market for a new phone in a few months, I've had various incarnations of nokias, a SE T610 and a SE K700i. I've got all these phones for free (or like £30) with a year's contract.

My g/f just got the K750i, and its pretty nice. I'd get this W800 if it wasn't orange.

There is a different coloured K750i that i might get. The camera is pretty good and the only real difference between it and the W800 is the integrated support for music. It plays music, but it doesn't come with the software, or something.

Not that I care, i take my 20gig iPod everywhere.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. Convergence is the future. Today's convergent devices aren't quite there yet, but they are getting better. My first camera phone sucked. My second one less so. My Nokia 6230i plays music, but it's no iPod. Maybe the Motorola iTunes phone (ROKR?) will be better. If somebody makes a device that allows me to carry one device instead of 2 or 3 or more, I'm there! I love my iPod, but it's a bitch to carry sometimes.

I'm from the future. There we're only carrying one device. I'd tell you which stock to buy, but that'd violate the Temporal Prime Directive.

Thinking about this more, say convergence is a passing fad or never really takes off. It's a random Tuesday morning and you're off to your job, then to your kid's basketball game afterward (or a date... whatever). Given a choice, would anyone really rather carry:

- A mobile phone to stay in touch with the family or change last minute plans
- An .mp3 player for the light rail ride or walk to the office
- A digital camera for your after work fun
- A PDA to keep your work schedule straight
- A flash drive so you can bring that presentation home
- Whatever else I haven't thought of...

A high-end mobile phone can do all those things in one package. I'll be the first to admit, even the priciest phone can't do all that as well as the separate pieces, but I do believe that day will come. I don't think anybody here who's looking forward to the W800 or the ROKR is saying they're gonna sell their iPod to get it... And I don't think any cameraphone fans would take their only daughter's wedding pictures with one... But for everyday use, it's hard to credibly diss it.

I'm dissing it. You've done nothing to convince me to think otherwise.

If it were an Apple Phone, Camera, iPod, PDA, Movie Player, Flash Drive... I'd maybe think "different"..

What if I do my work on a laptop, don't need a flash drive, don't need a PDA (which the laptop could do if I needed it to) -- and the iPod I have which plays music can also have alarms to remind me of such things?

Then I have a phone, camera, and ipod.

It can't be completely retarded... cuz the owner also has an iMac.

Anyways, according to the packaging it's a key chain buddy for the W800i.

i have the k750i. when i go out, often times i listen to my phone instead of the ipod because i can listen to npr radio while i'm out, then switch to mp3's on rapid transit rail, and when i get out of the subway, i can listen to the radio again. sony'd be set if they offered am radio as well.

since u can buy storage (expensive as sin), and phones do support shuffle mode, and the phone is something you'd carry anyways, so it's not a dedicated music player, i can see how it *may* be considered a shuffle killer. just a thought.

^ That's similar to what I would use it for. It won't replace my iPod mini, but it would replace both my phone and an iPod shuffle which I haven't bought yet. Plus it would mean I would always have a camera with me. (The cameras on the T610, T630, and K700i are all useless.)

So the radio is FM only?

Does the K750i with (non-DRM'd) iTunes AAC? I think it does, but I just want to confirm that it does, and I'm hoping the same is true for the W800.

It's a bluetooth egg that "talks" to you and tells you when its ringing when its paired up to the W800i. You can also use the egg as a bluetooth speakerphone attachment.

Macbidouille:

Some remarks concerning the SonyEricsson K750i and its compatibility with Mac
This mobile phone has already been tested many times:
- http://www.pixellum.com/blog/index.p...k750-et-le-mac
Some additional remarks:
- When tested with a PBG4 1.67GHz, file transfer via BT was at max at 48 KB/s, twice faster than with a K700 and almost 4 fold faster than with a T610/630.
- The K750i is fully compatible with iApp via iSync 2.1
- Thanks to the patch K750iGrabber, it is possible to use the K750i as a USB key without generating kernel panic. The transfer of data to the memory stick is achieved at 500KB/sec. Nothing amazing.
- The USB cable can be use to refill the K750i battery via a PB
- The K750i can play without any problem MP3 and home-made AAC audio file. But of course iti s not possible to play iTMS-originating AAC audio files.
- for fun, I have encoded a free video clip offered on the iTMS when buying a complete album via QT into 3gpp format. The size of the file was 5MB. The K750 could play the video without any problem or freezing, but one had to watch it on a rather small display.
- The remote control mode is allowing you to control the cursor of your Mac without installing any additional software.

The only missing function is of course the capacity to play mp4 to be even more an "iPhone" than the "iPhone", if the latter is released one day...
Motorola iPhone will have to be priced aggressively to be able to compete with the K750i.

I store and play AAC files on my K750i, works fine. Although, visible DS_store type files show up in the phones music folder, which I don't seem top be able to delete, even when the songs themselves have been deleted. Annoying. It seems I'm not alone in experiencing this problem but I haven't done any research into sorting it out yet...

The K700i is damn fine. Orange is good too. If the K700 had been available in colors I'd have went for orange or green or something. 1 MP camera is good enough on a phone (640x480).

I should be getting mine any day now, already got the 2 GB card in this morning.
This will be my first cell phone as I've always thought of myself as one of those people that just didn't need one. But with all the other cool stuff this phone has to offer, I had to have one!

Not really. This is a phone. I've got a good camera to take pictures, I've got a phone to snap a moment and MMS it to a friend.

That's all it's worth to me.

I'm not finding it.

They have nothing to fear from 'your' phone. It's an overpriced multi-use piece of crap.

I don't:

- Need a $$$$ phone that is a camera
- Need a $$$$ phone that plays music for me

I do:

- Need a phone that works like a PHONE SHOULD and is affordable

Is this thread/advertisement over yet?

That's just it. None of the detail is there in pix from the K700i. Even for spur-of-the-moment snapshots it leaves a LOT to be desired.

The pix from the K750 aren't great, but they're at least usable, and often even printable at the 4x6" size.

We each have our own biases though.

However, for "real" shots, I have my 8 MP digital SLR.

I agree with you that Apple is a nice company but you are not a nice guy because you use words like crap, that's not really polite, by they way if you'll miss a phone call while you are listening your not crappy iPod then you'll wish to get such a piece of crap as you said. Thank you very much.

I have my cell phone in my pocket. There is this cool invention called vibrate.

I use it all the time.

Even when listening to my iPod, I never miss a call.
