and the friends of the family are looking for donations as the mother herself cannot afford the full amount of the funeral.
so i'm looking for people to donate any amount they can to help the mother out. this is a hard time for everyone so ANY help would be appreciated by the mother and friends.
I have Paypal, and I will MATCH every dollar donated to my Paypal account with my own money.
If you are uncomfortable donating to me, please PM me and we can discuss the issue. I promise that 100% of the funds raised will go to the mother.
i feel this is the least i can do for a fellow classmate.
feel free to PM me or IM me at "iamwhor3hay" for details or my Paypal email address.
so please, any amount you donate will help. it's been a hard week for everyone involved.
thanks,
George

My prayers go out the your classmates family and friends. May he now rest in peace. I think that you are doing a very noble thing. Wishing you success.

Just out of curiosity, why is a PM necessary for a yes or no question? I don't need all the details, it just seems odd.

Those seem like pretty straight forward questions.

not very close at all. it would stretch the definition of "acquaintance" by A LOT. i saw her on campus almost everyday walking to class, or on the pool deck for swim. but we didn't talk.
then i saw it on TV and i could not believe it. i said three words after i saw the news, and two of three were cuss words.
it's one of those things where it hits you, and you don't believe it. or you don't WANT to believe it.
maybe it's because i'm only sixteen, and i really haven't experienced death so close. i don't know.
but i felt the urge to help because i have learned so much just in the past 5 days. and i can't imagine how painful it must be for the parents. you aren't supposed to outlive your children. and to have to bury them must be one of the worst feelings one can feel. and i'm sensitive to that. here's a girl, one year away from graduating high school, and she gets her life taken away from her.
and that's what killed me. she's at that age where she is aware of her existence but really hasn't lived life yet. she won't be able to experience what most people her age will be able to experience. she won't be able to go through the ups and downs of life that make life what it is.
people say she is in a "better place," but i don't have proof of that and i'm going to keep trying to help make things better in any way i can.
and that's why i'm doing this. it's the least i could do.

call me a cynic if you like, but this is about the third posting i've seen on here this week, where someone's been asking for money for some noble sounding reason.

Wow, tough crowd. Of course, I'm not going to be much help. How much have you gotten so far?
One issue that struck me as odd, was your comment about matching any donation dollar for dollar. Why don't you donate as much as you can and then refer all other donations to the estate, or however this sort of thing is done?
Is there a news story on the internet that you can refer us too?

yeah, tough crowd here but some nice people too.
i've gotten no money from this site but a couple of dollars from another. lot of friendly people willing to help though.
because i thought it would be a better way to get people to donate more (including me, because the maximum i would have donated would be $20, but now i'm paying more than that too). obviously i was wrong for wanting to match, so i guess i learned something from this too.
well, i guess here's the story.

2 Teens Killed, 2 Hurt As Car Veers Off Malibu Road
From Associated Press
A car filled with teenagers plunged off an embankment and rolled over several times early Sunday, killing a 17-year-old girl and a male companion and leaving two others seriously injured.
Police blamed the crash on drinking.
The California Highway Patrol said the 1999 Acura was traveling northbound on Malibu Canyon Road just before 1 a.m. when it veered off the road and rolled down a 50-foot embankment.
The passengers in the rear seat — a teenage girl from Arcadia and a male believed to be in his late teens — died after being ejected from the vehicle. The 18-year-old driver and another passenger, 19, both from Van Nuys, suffered major injuries and were taken to UCLA Medical Center.
The CHP did not release the names of the dead or the two injured teenagers.
"The cause of this collision was determined to be alcohol-related," CHP officials said in a statement.

Oh yeah, I remember that on the news. If I recall correctly, the news said that the two in the back seat weren't wearing their seatbelts.
The accident was really sad.

When I was in high school, we went through this kind of thing too.
The first time was when I was a sophomore, one of the star players of the football team drove his car off of a cliff. The same day, one of my classmates (who happened to be in the very class where I heard about the suicide) didn't show up for class. Turns out, earlier that morning he killed his own brother.
The second similar thing hit closer to home. A guy who I was good friends with when we were in grade school, who was a year older than me, shot himself. I heard about it by picking up the morning paper. His brother who I also knew well was in my year, and it was very difficult.
Alcohol was a factor in both of the above suicides. (Namely, both guys had been arrested and/or put on house arrest for alcohol related offenses.)
My thoughts go out to your school and her family.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who's involved in drunk driving.
Two of my best friends has been killed by drunk teenage drivers. History is just repeating itself with idiot teenagers who think they're invincible to anything. Their parents are partly responsible for this and they should deal with it themselves.
I know you're trying to be sincere but this stuff is best left to victim's family and friends.

our district is usually pretty quiet but we've had two girls killed in alcohol related accidents just this summer.
i dunno, stuff like this just makes me not want to drink at all and be the designated driver all the time.

first, i'm sorry to hear about your two best friends.
? the girl who was killed was not driving and neither was her other friend in the back seat who was also killed. i really don't know if all of them were drinking, or just the driver, but two young people were killed in a pretty horrific accident, and that's enough reason for me to feel sympathetic for the families. it's perfectly okay for you not to feel sympathetic to this cause and i'm not forcing you to.
i guess one thing i do not understand is why teenagers still do drugs and drink alcohol even when the school preaches not to. ever since we were babies we were taught not to do drugs and drink. yet people still do it. i just saw a group of people who go to my school smoking outside of a supermarket. some of us are idiots, yes, but not all of us are.
yes, the parents are partially responsible, but pointing fingers will get no where at this point.
it seems like i am doing a sincere but wrong thing by doing this according to a lot of you.

I wholeheartedly agree.
They are going through many extreme feelings at this time, and they will need time on their own to process their loss. They will also face the judgements of others (see Adam Betts's post) which will trigger anger and shame...
These will be tough times; being available is one thing, doing unwanted stuff may put them in a difficult position. wdlove is right; being there, or just being available, may be all they need.
Anyway, best wishes to you and them...

The card is absolutely great. The money.. I dunno. Your intentions are good, but you may hurt their feelings... unless they admitted having a need for it and asked you... You can always ask them as well.. better spoil the surprise to show greater sensitivity...
This is a very sensitive issue yet your idea may be a great one for them... However, what comes from the heart...
Do what you think is best! Just do not impose yourself...

Nobody said you're doing wrong thing. It's just that this is not necessarily the best thing to do for them.
I've been through this before and believe me victim's family will not want to deal with money from outer circle people at this point. This is not the time to impress anyone (even though if that's not your intention). A card is good enough but money is going too far. They will somehow feel responsible for paying you back.
I'm only assuming that their family is the type I'm thinking of. If they're different then I apologize and just ignore me.

a guy said that the family was looking for donations for the funeral, but he has stopped collecting them. i'm not sure if it's because the family does not need the money anymore, or if he just does not want to personally collect it as he lives pretty far away from where the family currently resides.
