My guess is, if you asked 10 people here why the lounge sucks, you'd get as many different answers.

I think the Lounge sucks because they don't serve alcohol. All my favorite Lounges do.

(wow I totally posted in this legendary thread).

Railroader, if you want to gripe out a forum you aren't being forced to visit, why don't you offer some constructive advice as to how it can be changed, and articulate what the problem is?

I've tried to do this with the political lounge... it didn't go very far, but maybe your post will?

See, the lounge did use to suck. Seems like in the last few months people have been being extremely insulting and inconsiderate. Lame posts and childish antics aside, this place used to be quite cool. There's seems to have been a changing of the user base lately.

I guess it's just like those cool taverns/pubs/night clubs that aren't too well known and then suddenly the word gets out about this "cool" place and then the uncool start to frequent it. Eventually the uncool realize that the place has become uncool and they start to leave and look for the next "cool" place.

This place is currently uncool.

Yup. Usually those who announce that they are using their ignore function are the most insulting and inconsiderant. And then there are those who follow other users around and hound them about whether or not they play the triangle.

Got it now?

Come on... the triangle thing is just pure silliness, there isn't anything at all mean-spirted about it. I have no history of following people around and hounding them, so while I understand your point, I resent your characterizing me in the same light.

Irrelevant.

You had no need to follow me around asking me about an inane question you really knew the answer to.

That is called being a "fanboy"

And why do you keep repeating about "not knowing history"

No one is asking if you do.

Sounds like you are acting over-defensive for some reason.

Why is that?

Wow.. this is just way over the top.

It's really not a big deal, I have not committed some sort of heinous crime. Unless you have some sort of childhood traumatic experience with triangles, there is no need for you to be paranoid at the notion that I've been stalking you for some heinous intent.

I'm relatively new to the lounge, I don't have a long history with the lounge. I don't even know who Cash is.

Just simmer down, there is no need to constantly be aggressive and short with people. Perhaps you're naturally a dark and intense dude, but not everybody is like that nor wishes to converse with such a hostile vibe going on.

Just relax, you're really wound up tight. Save it for somebody who is actually deserving of your rage.

Look at the projection fly.

I was none of those.

Now why don't you instead of dodging with projection. Answer why you have been following me around asking about triangles when I told you days ago?

And you are still doing it?

Do you lack the "People Skillz" as they call it?

Would it make you feel better if I changed them to circles?

Or does that make you want to wash your hands more?

I know you're expecting some sort of response that will provoke and rile your weird constant craving for a good ol' 6 page scrap with somebody, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint you. Your bait is pretty transparent.

Naw, I just want you to quit following me around asking inane questions that I have answered you before on. And act dumb when I mention it.

No one buys it.

I am however, overjoyed you've decided to take your games and go home.

I've never heard jazz triangle, do you have clips of that? Obnoxious... hmmm.. I generally don't think of triangles as obnoxious instruments, although I haven't listened to a lot of triangle-heavy music.

I also have a theory.. I've been thinking about this... When Zimphire posts a lot, maybe it's because while he played the triangle, even though he put his heart and soul into it, he wasn't really noticed and didn't really feel like an important part of the band. So he has compensated, and is now very outspoken.

At any rate, we know that Zimphire is a musician!

It is a sub-forum of the Lounge. It is part of the Lounge. And I was referring to the original poster in that thread and actions like that throughout the Lounge, including the pol/war/religion sub-forum.

Nice to see that Zimphire hasn't changed. I guess that's on topic.

If you think the lounge sucks so much because of the degradation of posts, why become part of the problem and add to it?

All forums, specially large ones will go through there ups and downs.

and whats the story around Cash, I keep seeing references to Cash but no clue what its about.

Anyway I see a big lock somewhere soon in this thread. I do agree with the original poster's point. However, I think that this topic is not helping for the following reason:

That does not mean we close everything we find repulsive- our practice is to be light-handed rather than heavy, and that letting offensive threads remain open is often a means for folks who disagree vehemently to reject such wrong-headed opinions.

That said, folks shouldn't make it a practice to be knowingly offensive under the guise of "TOO FUNNY!!!!111" - it is a thin disguise.
Obviously, as he said, "TOO FUNNY!!!!111" is indeed a thin disguise and it is quite obvoius this was some sort of personal attack on Christianity blah blah whatever. The mods let it get argued down and then locked the thread.

So while the original poster makes a good point which I could not agree with more, I do not think this thread is helping the situation because the mods are clearly taking measures to keep such behavior to a minimum.

Furthermore, as a Christian, I am praying for Athens. I have read some of his posts, and while offended by them, I am of the belief that 1) being offending by silly posts does not really harm me, 2) he does make some good posts, and 3) his silly posts hurt him more than anyone who is offended by them. So even though I am not the best of Christians, I do my best and pray that Athens (and not just him--I apologize if it seems like I'm zeroing in on him, its just that he started the thread in question) sees what I see and fixes what he is doing wrong... (and of course that what I am seeing is accurate)

Goodness...

When will you kids grow up from your petty fights?

That is why the lounge sucks at times. The constant bickering and whining of people who are not getting things the way they want them, blame others, or the mods, for that, then get into stupid fights.

Vicious circles of the ongoing lameness.

I'm all for a much, much heavier hand by thet moderators. I think less tolerance of bickering and stupidity could only improve this place.

But my life in general has only improved sine getting banned from Pol/War.

According to you Railroader;

1) One thread and the whole lounge sucks
2) That thread was actually posted by one individual you have issues with. Somehow, it is akin to make a thread about a member, like the "THIS TOO FUNNY!!!111" thing.

I thought there was Freedom of opinion; funny enough, mostly conservatives have replied with outrage, while most liberals seem not to care. On the other hand, the sucky part is on with the little apartheid involving kevin and besson3c. which is far more common and bothersome a behavior throughout the Lounge and the P.L., making threads personal exchanges that should be dealt with through pm or in front of a beer.

I understand that some opinions can be offensive. But so far, both Liberals and Conservatives of these Lounges have shown stupid behaviors of any kind. We are left with a choice; accept we cannot always have control of it and ignore it, or refuse it yet avoid annoying everybody else with our petty egos.

Of course, we can also decide to become Crusaders of Appropriateness and become Lords of Annoyance.

And it's for the weak and simple minded. Your point?
Judging people for their use of of a tool made available for all provides you with an opportunity to have an opinion. However, in this case, you show as no better than the one (s) whose behavior you have issues with.
