This is not rocket science. We all understand the science of addictive behavior...impulse, action, reward...

But WHY is the lounge and the P/L so addictive to you?

Is your addiction to the P/L different than that of the Lounge?

Do you ever venture to the other rooms? What is your percentage of visitation in each?

I'll start it off.

In the beginning I ONLY posted or visited the P/L. Then I began finding interesting threads in the lounge...then in the video/audio room and once in a while I'd find some reason to find technical answers in other rooms.

My current useage is roughly 50/50 lounge & P/L, I'd guess.

I like to scrap with other posters. But I increasingly find myself feeling compassion at the most unexpected times and places. It feels like an alien coming out of my belly kind of thing. But that's why I might find myself inhabiting the main lounge more than before.

Yet, I remain very interested in war and politics and (seque into the addiction part...) when something occurs in the news that is germaine to a previous discussion (usually, if it helps bring new understanding or furthers my way of explaining my POV) I look forward to posting it.

I purposely distance myself from emotional attachments with any other posters, yet, I do regularly feel a kinship with some and great admiration for others, for reasons I will not specify.

There.

Your turn.

I dunno if I sense sarcasm there...

But on a more serious note macNN has kept my previous Macs running smoothly and awesomely. Plus a few laughs on the side. I visit the other forums, but with OSX I really can't help much anymore, my expertise ended with OS9.

Other than that, it wastes time, and allows me to converse with people all over the country/globe and across the age gamut. A little virtual world that we all obviously love...

I never posted in the Lounge for a long time. Then I got a job where I had to wait for my computer to rasterize images and ****, and I needed to kill more time.

I believe in World Peace.

Naaaw...

I like the ongoing gore and taboo that the nonsense of the Right can pull out of nowhere.

Naaaw...

I'm just game for an easy fight.

Naaaw...

I am a mojo2 fan.

Naaaw...

I post only when I am drunk...

Naaw...

I am not addicted. Any Macsinner is a friend.

Naaw...

All the above.

Hell yeah!

I find it unnecessary and redundant to tell people that they're wrong and I'm right.

I visit the "Applications" and "Mac OS" forums quite often. Why is this place so addictive? Great information, comedy, diverse people, and above all else, it's fun!

Have some sense of humor; I was obviously trolling.

mojo2 has made lots of jokes in the Pol Lounge to me, and I am responding in kind, and in friendship I might add.

Regarding me lecturing the rest of the world, I consider there is only one I lectured and it was you. I also promised myself I would not open that debate again, so I will cease it right now. I believe you were wrong in some aspects, but decided to accept the difference of opinion and let it go. That was certainly a significant experience for me, bringing some terrible memories as well as the idea of my own actual limits, which I had to accept like a grown man.

For everything else, I am no better than anybody else here; all opinions are pretty equivalent from a human point of view, I believe. The Pol Lounge is a nice place to experiment self-restraint and tolerance to difference.

As angaq0k, I received my share of abuse from some other members (and certain mods were pretty unwelcoming I might add), where they were not only lecturing me but thinking I was actually meaningful enough that they had to start whole new threads about me. Talk about a waste of time...!!!

However, I had some pretty harsh judgements and I often apologized for my rudeness and the inappropriateness of some of my post. But some of my opinions still hold ground today in front of what some conservative people brought as counter-arguments. On the other hand, I believe I have far more respect to those who oppose me in some ideas than before.

I learned a lot about myself from some people like dcolton, Millenium, Simey but also Spliffdaddy and ghostflash, Zimphire... Surprised? Well, no one grows in a safety...

The Pol Lounge was an opportunity for growth, for me at least, even with a pinch of silliness.

I like it because it's a broad user base that I can interact with. In my real life, I don't interact with morons, or people who I view as intelligent but are vastly different than myself. Maybe it's because of social implications, maybe it's because I'm afraid to confront people who don't seem like me, but whatever. Forums delete the person, and leave only the idea. I like that. People judged on their ideas, not their appearances.

I used to like the Lounge a lot more, and post a lot more.

Never cared much for the Pol/War bit -- it has always been stuck at 'my team kicks your team's ass harder'

For some crazy reason, I value some (a limited few) of the member's perspectives.

in addition, there are some crazy as$ people here, and they're great to get into a rant with.

That is only true when no one sees your pic.

If you have messy hair, someone will make fun of it.
If you are fat, someone will make fun of it.
If you have an overly large growth on your ass, someone will say you are making it up, and it will end up being a 3 page joke.

There, I have posted in this thread.

But you ARE the accumulation of your ideas, the expression of which are put on display here. If we criticize a poster's ideas, how much can they (do they) distance themselves and their very being from their ideas?

mojo, that is deep man.

You should really write some heavy metal lyrics.

Add something about dragons coming down from mountains and laying waste.

And a codpiece.

It's like when you have a cut. it hurts when you touch the area but at the same time, in some weird way, it also feels good.

Same with the Poli Lounge.

Since I don't have any friends, and I only have a part-time job, I have a lot of spare time.

Thus, posting on MacNN helps to alleviate that issue. Maybe one day I'll find something constructive to do in my spare time.

WHY is MacNN's Lounge & PL So Addictive? Describe your interaction with MacNN.
Actually, the more I learn about certain people on here, the less and less I am inclined to remain. Which I am sure will make some of you giddy in your panties.

Huh! It seems MacNN is like a cigarette ash dropped on your pants leg.

If the pants are made of dark fabric, the ashes look light grey.

If the pants are of a light colored fabric, the ashes look dark grey.

You and most posters (I believe) find a sense of community and closeness here at MacNN.

Whereas, I like it because it allows me to avoid getting close to people and gives posters, like budster101, anonymity.

I stay because there are some VERY cool people on here. They are still here, they are just getting drowned out by the static from other less cool stations.

They can't. I think criticizing ideas is GREAT. That's what people should be criticized about, ideas change. Ideas evolve. If I were a fat kid, I'd much rather have someone make fun or chastize my idea about ...eh... "Cheryl Crow being hot" than me being a fat kid.

He's not really a friend, per se. A friendly acquaintance. One thing about Tucker? He knows he's an asshole. And he actually has come a long way from where he once was. Now, at least, he recognizes when he's an asshole.
