More power to 'em, if they can make it work. I have yet to successfully initiate a 2-way video conference, despite trying on two different computers, on both ends. Either just video, just audio, or nothing at all, with bogus "connection refused" messages. iChat AV is overhyped, as far as reliability. It might work sometimes, but I have yet to experience it, myself.

Wait are they using this for working with normal people? THAT IS COOL!

That said, Voice chat was fun in dorm...
"Hey how's it going?"
"Good... aren't you just down the hall?"
"Yah... what's your point?"
"Nothing..."

Or the better one
Paul: Hey Tristan just came in the room.
David: Hey open a voice chat with me!
Paul: Why?
David: Just do it!
Paul: OK..
(Over Paul's Speakers) "Tristan... this... Is God"
Tristan: "Dave... I think that's blasphemy."

Our $150 cameras look nice though.

I've used it several times. I've never had a problem with it. I do chats with both Mac Users on iChat and PC users on AIM. It works better with Mac Users of course but it's not bad with the PC users.

I imagine it's the AIM network going wonky, but whatever it is, I find it to be unreliable. It's not ready for real work, like if your job depended on it.

I have been using iChatAV since the very beginning, with my computer illiterate parents who are on a slow DSL line, and it always works. I use it every day with my SO, and it always works.
iChatAV rocks. I know 2 people who switched over to a Mac just because of it. It even works with the PC version of AIM. Not sure what your problem is.

It's a good think for Apple. Can't beat some free publicity.

I use iChat and iSight pretty often to talk with my clients and I never had any problems with it.

It's definitely ready for real works. More likely you're in the minority with your problems. Firewall, damaged software, unsupported config, etc etc perhaps?

I'll also have to pipe in with a "never had a problem" before. Although audio chat was a bit messed up on campus... But so are a hundred other things they try and block. I'm pretty sure that the reliability is relatively up there with other live video conferencing used in a closed system.
