Ok, so I am watching the tube, sipping a good bottle of Shiraz. I grab the remote and nock over my glass… Red stains engulf my carpet, and my newly purchased hand tufted wool rug. OMGF, I am sure my downstairs neighbor heard me cursing.

So I rub out as much as I can with water and a little laundry detergent on the carpet, and just water on the wool rug.

This morning I check things out, because the wool rug is earth colors, you can barely see the drops of red that remain. Still there is enough there for me to grit my teeth. The white carpet obviously still has a bit o red in it. Looks like someone dropped the opacity of the stain down to 10%, but its still there.

So this is where you come in, what do I do to remove the small stains from the wool rug? Do I need to get some woolight and start scrubbing? I may want to call a carpet cleaner and have him or her come over and just do the whole room. It’s a bit costly, but I’ve desired to have it done, I would have liked to wait till after winter though.

Do you guys have any special ticks up your sleeves that can save me a few bucks, and so I don’t have to have carpet cleaner come over and spend major cash.

Cheers!

as bizarre as it sounds, soaking the stain in white wine might help.

Folex might get it out. Folex is great because the stains don't come back when it dries, and it doesn't stink.

According to Harry's Rug Store - Red Wine Stains - Pour white wine or soda water over the stain and blot until the stain is out.

Also according to that website - Since wool is made up of 30% lanoline (oil) it doesn't actually absorb stains. You can therefore usually take a stain out with a little patience.

I was attempting to spark conversation, and see if there were any home remedies out there that work well.

I give a damn about the carpet, its the wool rug I am concerned with. I know I can get the stain out of the carpet.
