I was touring asia when the podcast feature in itunes was introduced, and maybe i was expecting too much, but there doesnt seem to be a lot on there unless you want to hear about tech stuff.

all i am looking for really is:

A good hip-hop show

and

some kind of call in show

have you guys found any podcasts that you really want to hear when they bring out a new episode?

Dawn and Drew is hilarious. Give it a listen. It doesn't fit your criteria, but it's too funny not to list.

The only podcast that is somewhat decent is the Engadget one, but that is basically just a 40 minute low quality recording of two fem nerds chit chatting about Handspring Treo.

The only one I really look forward to is TWiT. I loved the Screen Savers and it's nice to hear Leo and company again.

Call in shows are kinda difficult to do well for non-commercial podcasters for a couple of reasons.

1. Equipment- Most radio stations invest around $500 and regularly $1,000 and often, much much more just for a telephone hybrid device to capture a phone call for broadcast purposes. The average podcaster can't and won't invest THAT much just for a single device to do a phone call-in show.

2. Time scheduling - Rather than spending $10,000+ on creating a sound proof podcast studio, many podcasters record their shows at night when outside vehicle traffic and people sounds are minimized. They usually have to fit their podcasting avocation into their real life which usually has it's share of non-negotiable time demands, so it is difficult to commit to a particular time for callers to call in. AND because the caller can't hear the show topic or feel the flow of the show before they call in, callers would be less apt to call than to a radio call in show at an FCC licensed radio station.

If you want to listen to call-in shows, why not listen to radio? Or assume that many Podcasts are like call-in shows to begin with.

Can't help you with the other. Other than the iTMS street mix offerings, hip-hop ain't my thang.

I was hoping for more music ones, like the iTMS tuesday. Though that one is basically useless since none of the "new" tracks is available in the international stores

Wow! Thanks. Stay tuned! It's a possibility.

And, incidentally, even though 'world' music isn't really me speed, mon, I DO appreciate the effort and care you put into your site!

Very nice work.

Alternatively you just download the Gizmo Project Application for free and you're all set.

WOW, Mastrap! Cool beans! I downloaded it and have been reading about it and i'm intrigued to say the least. However, it remains to be seen how well the recording works. But one step at a time.

Using it all the time. It works really well, with my only gripe being that it's not encoding to mp3. Take a look at it, I'm sure you'll like it

Well, i've given it a bit of a test and there is a humm in the recording that is ok when just using for getting info for myself, but for recording an interview to be part of a podcast? Hmmm, it's not what I had hoped. But, don'tget me wrong, it's really neat. Just not as quiet as I'd hoped.

But the price sure is right!

Yes, I had that a couple of times. Then at other occasions it disappeared completely. Gizmo to phone tends to be crystal clear, Gizmo to Gizmo less so.

I noticed that most of the "top" podcasts in iTunes are terrible. Especially the one sitting at number one the last time I checked. It was a podcast about iPaqs. That kinda threw me, so I downloaded it to see what the fuss was about. I swear it was the most boring piece of drivel I've ever heard. The guy just made me want to go to sleep...

The only podcast I download regularly is Cinecast.

I'd subscribe to that, too. I don't think Adam really appreciated exactly what Drew did for him, though.
