I didn't realize this until looking a bit further through the store, but the only computer hardware and software stocked by Good Guys is the Mac platform! At least, that's the case for this store, and that's the impression the reps gave me. Can you believe a chain is carrying only Mac products? On that basis, I encourage everyone to buy from Good Guys during this trial period, in order to prove to the parent chain CompUSA that there is a lot to be gained from the platform
Until this point I was not a customer of Good Guys, but I decided to go for a quick browse and must say I am very impressed by this Pasadena, CA store's Apple section. I did not even realize there was any Good Guys partnership - the sales rep said the selection came in about six months ago. The display motif is very clean, similar to an Apple Store; the software section is stronger than any Apple software section I know of in the history of Apple's relationship with national retailers. Beyond that, I'm also quite impressed by the firmness of this iBoiok's keyboard, which is admittedly far nicer than my venerable 466's. There are two shortcomings to be found - no PowerBooks and the demo machines are running Panther. I truly do hope this arrangement is proving profitable, because Good Guys is putting in a strong effort. The next time you're near GG! store, I highly recommend taking the time to follow the giant Apple logo to a very nice slice of retail Apple pie.
