I have an original model G4 cube for which I no longer have use. I looked on eBay and full setups with it are going for under $500. Is there any possibility that these things might be a collector's item some day and increase in value over time? If not I'm just gonna sell it. Anyone want one?

I would consider a Cube, but they are still too expensive for the auxiliary Mac I would like to pick up. The Cube's value has been reduced by the mini, but it's still a terrific Mac. If I had one, it would be much more valuable to me than the $500 it would fetch on eBay, just as my iBook 466 is much more valuable than its market price would reflect. So, if I were in your position I would not sell it, unless you need the money for some urgent purpose. Due to its limited run, there is the chance that the Cube will be valuable to collectors one day many years down the road.

Here in germany it already is a collectors item. And it sells for maybe 900 - 1000€.
You can also find upgrades like a dual 1.2 Ghz G4 processor card and an up to data video card. This shows already that the cube is a keeper.

I'd keep it. Theres no point selling a mac unless you really need the dough. Although they resell better than PCs, they are always worth more than their market value.

The cube is only worth keeping if you are using it. Otherwise, its collector price will approach the price of that other collector Mac: the SE/30.

The problem with the Cube today is that they're too slow for today's apps, and to upgrade it you need to put in a fan which defeats the purpose of the Cube's fanless system.

I have one that I bought on eBay a while back. I turned it on to install OS X, shut it off, and haven't turned it on since.

It's a great collector's item, though.

I wouldn't buy a Cube with an eye towards investment, no. It'll probably retain more value than a similarly spec'd Sawtooth down the road, but expect them to get cheaper, not more expensive, as they have since production stopped.

That said, I've got a powerful itch to throw a 1.6 upgrade in mine and turn it into my radio server so I don't have to stop Radio Tejas in order to do other audio work.

Well thanks for everyone's replies. It sounds like I'll just hold on to it for a little bit and maybe upgrade it. The hard drive was always really loud so that might be the first replacement. I definitely dont want a fan in there though.
