Yah, I gota say I'm super impressed, mainly cause the software is helping me look very good. I might have to post later the stuff that I'm doing so some of you guys can tell me how much better you'd make it...
But anyway, I did some video editing in high school so I came in with a slight advantage over a novice. But I gota say the documentation for it is great, (Though figuring out how to export to camera is a bit tough... still looking.) and the software behaves very well. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of real useful transitions... I honestly can say Cross Fade has been used a lot... I think I used one other wipe. Lately I've just been adjusting the opacity sliders though.
And my 1Ghz PowerBook is pretty darned good enough for it too which has me very happy. Though after using software that finally genuinely taxes my machine I'm craving a G5. (Though once I get that I imagine I'll figure out a reason to get Final Cut Pro hahaha).

Anyway... don't know where I'm really going with this post... I've been up all night editing footage and will be spending the next week or so hold up in my basement sifting through DV tape shot by someone else and praying for the right shot... ahh producing a 20ish minute video in one week... what could POSSIBLY go wrong?
(By the way I'm wiping just about everything off my HD just so I can fit all this dang DV footage...)

I should also mention I love how when I updated the movies I exported from LiveType they were updated automagically! It was great, saved me time and energy... which when you're sleep deprived and... oh turns out I'm hungry... it's a good thing...
Someone's cooking something up stairs... actually smells kinda bad... I feel a bit sick... yawn... I need sleep...

yeah, you just play back, and hit record on the camera. Just make sure you're not dropping any frames.

FCE looks pretty slick. I've been trying to justify the expense when iMovie does 99% of everything I want it ot.

The thing I would need FCE for is color accuracy. Sometimes I'll set the white balance and forget to put the camera back to auto-white balance when I'm done. And then the wife will use the camera and film in the exact opposite light I set eh balance to and she'll end up with great footage that's either too blue or too yellow and iMovie doesn't have enough color controls to really fix it. In these instances I usually just completely remove all color and make the footage black and white.

But then, FCE does look a little daunting to this user.

Have you ever used Premier or anything else? If so it's actually super easy after one reasonably complicated project. Or rather you'll learn what you need for what you currently do super quick. And you'll learn more as you go on. And the documentation for it is quite helpful. Though be warned you will need a POWERFUL Mac to run it well. My 1Ghz PowerBook is OK, but I honestly can say there are some things FCE can do that I won't touch cause they would just take way too long to render.
I'm looking forward to version 4, and hoping they add in some features from Motion, or at least make more of the filters CoreVideo compatible if they do I'll most certainly be upgrading. And remember your iMovie projects will import into FCE fine.

What's the reason for all the hatred directed at you, Salty? Did you run over someone's virtual pet or something?

FCE is super good compared to iMovie. Livetype is great fun unitl I can afford Motion. I thought I'd never ever use Soundtrack (no musical ability whatsoever), but then I realised i could keyframe audio filters in Soundtrack (FCE doesn't have this ability like FCP) so now I'm using that as well. It's a bargain price really.

However, now I'm using it I want more so I know upgrading to FCP one day is inevitable. It's wierd how I'm missing stuff (Log and capture) that I don't have and never even understood in iMovie land.
