How is this M$ being evil? If they actually have prior art that pre-dates the iPod, then they deserve to be awarded the patents. Apple's bad for keeping the iPod a big secret and taking too long to apply for a patent.

Apple just has to produce dated documentation that they had the idea first. Move on. Nothing to see here.

M$ sucks as usual. If they can't innovate or create which is the norm for them, they copy, they sue, they buy and shelf technology that would otherwise compete with them.

If they can't have it, they break it. Just look at the president, the one and only Billy Baits Gates. What a fricking jackhole.

Gates will run circles around you. And this "M$" thing is old, overused, and stupid. Having both Windows and Apple computers for many years, I can personally attest to the fact that Apple gets 20x the money from me that Microsoft does. MS may get $200 every 2-3 years from me. Apple... over $4,000.

As for these we-need-a-story-to-sell-newpapers "reports", they are fundamentally guesstimating that the rejection has to do with the MS playlist patent application, but I don't think that's the case at all.

The issue has more to do with dials in general. Dials and knobs have been around forever, and knobs that select digital menu items have been present for decades. Heck, I have an old stereo receiver from the late 80s that uses a knob/dial to select radio stations and volume/balance/eq settings.. complete with visual display. That hinders the patent application for the iPod wheel interface much more that an automatic playlist generation patent.

Man this could totally **** Apple if they are found guilty and have to pay residuals or stop selling iPods.

Run circles around me how? Where did that come from? The M$ thing is old when I say it's old. Ok, it's probably old.

So you give Apple 20x more money than M$. Well, I gave all of my computing money to M$ for many years and only bought my first Apple computer 2 1/2 years ago. So, I have some pent up anger at M$, so if it is ok with you, I'm going to use this intraweb to vent it out of my system. It irritates me, what Bill Gates has done to a few companies and products to keep them from competing in the marketplace. He and his company are obviously behind the AMD law suit, and this is just another possible BS scheme from him to mess with Apple. Just my opinion, and if you are correct about the news story, great, I'll be happy.

So, let me have my llttle rant. Ok?

Oh, by all means. That's what this place is for. I just wanted to give my little rant in response to yours.

It's nothing personal, budster101... I just think Gates and every other self-made person who works 70-80 hour weeks for decades deserves a little respect. I'd say the same to someone who bitched about Jobs.

The Font and general Ipod GUI goes back to System 6, this is utter ********

One only has to look as far as the Apple Menu in System 6 and 7 to see that is the ipod GUI.

I have nothing against patents. But they way they are using them is a bit like someone that cyber-squats domain names.

Just as bad.

Whoa - It takes like 10 minutes to file a provisional patent. Apple needs to play the whole game not just parts of the game.

There is no need for a settlement with M$, since the iPod itself predates the application date for that patent.

Exactly.

Some people don't know how patents are issued, how they work, and what they are used for. Apple already has a product out in the market. Microsoft filing patents for existing products that are not their own is useless.
Bush Tax Cuts == Job Killer
June 2001: 132,047,000 employed
June 2003: 129,839,000 employed
2.21 million jobs were LOST after 2 years of Bush Tax Cuts.

Wisk, just because someone registers a domain, doesn't make them cyber squatters does it?

What MS did is a kin to say, after a big product comes out, they go and register a bunch of domains that relate to that product.

That is exactly what they did. But with patents.

They are losing their grip, and know it.
