Do you think the day and time an eBay auction ends matters that much? (Yeah, I understand that 4 in the morning isn't the best time for an auction to end if you want to maximize the bid amounts, but I'm not talking about that.)

Most of the stuff I sell on eBay is electronic or computer equipment, if that matters.

if it's a weekday, I'd say the evening is best. Around 7-8 o'clock. That way, people have time to come home from work, maybe eat dinner, and then get on to vote at the last minute. If it's earlier in the day, a lot of people will be at work and unable to participate in the last-minute bidding. On a weekend, I'd probably still end it in the evening, after people have finished the day's activities, but before they go out at night.

You mean before bed?

Anyways, are you saying that a weekday night is better than a weekend night? I'm kinda thinking along those lines too, and both are better than during the day any day of the week. People have better things to do during the day.

I usually time all of my auctions to end on Friday evening around 7 or 8pm pacific time. Saturday nights are nice too.

I didn't realize you were asking whether weekdays or weekends was better (started my reply before you put the poll up). Yeah, I'd say weekdays are a bit better.

I've had the best of luck ending mine on Sunday evenings (9:00 PM). For whatever reason, Wednesday evenings during the week (again, 9:00 PM closing) has been good as well.

I've gotten really goo deals buying in the middle of the nite so I would say that's not a good time. After 2 a.m.

Selling...I've had some good bidding wars between 8-11:59 p.m. on weekdays.

OK, I'm thinking Monday or Tuesday around 9:30 pm Eastern Time would be the best time.

It's after dinner for us Torontonians has finished, and it's 6:30 pm in Vancouver, shortly after people have returned from work.

The one worry I had for my TiBook which is next up on the auction block is the fact that some people looking for a computer might not already have a computer at home. But then I thought the vast majority of people on eBay would have at least a cheap PC desktop at home.

I'm too chicken to offer it without a reserve price though.

WTF? $10 for a TiBook reserve price eBay charge? I wonder if it's worth risking going with no reserve...

Just start it at the lowest price you'd be willing to take. No reserve fee doing it that way, hope that someone bids on it for that amount, then it will just keep on going up from there.

So, eBay has treated me well. I sold a TiBook SD for significantly more than the current iBook, and I sold a Canon 17-85 IS camera lens (locally) for more than B&H charges for it new. Got good coin for a 77mm multicoated UV filter too. Next up is a 77mm multicoated circular polarizer.

I've been doing all my sales on a weekday evening, but it seems annoying to have to wait all weekend before putting an auction up. Too bad there isn't an option to say "end auction at Thursday 9:30 pm" or something like that.

I could list it tonite for a 5-day auction though. Anybody use those, or does everyone stick with 7-day auctions?

Many third-party listing tools will allow you to schedule a listing time for free. eBay also allows you to schedule a listing time, but for a fee.

i never put a reserve on. i start all my auctions at a starting price of just enough to cover my ebay fees and postage costs. i find that the market pretty much finds its own level. ie. for everything i've sold at slightly less than i wanted, i've sold something else for more than i was expecting.

as regards best time to end an auction? - i'd favour weekends or evenings, when computers are more likely to be being used for leisure than for work.

Evening, 8-9 pm. People are at home, have eaten and are ready to bid

I read a story about it and it makes a HUGE difference.

Obviously weekdays during work hours is BAAAD. Same goes for saturdays and sundays during the day.

The best time is when everyone is at home like weekdays (except Friday) at about 8pm.

Dont hassle with selling expensive items on eBay, ,I have the experiance and know how to do it for you!!!

The Best time for ending in US is anytime between 7 am pst and 1 am pst, or 7 am est and midnight est, any day of the week. It is wrong to assume that EVERYBODY works monday to friday 9 to 5. The ones with differant work schdules are even MORE likely to buy ON -LINE. Best ending time does depend on your item, truck driver items are best at 9 pm fri/sat night, baby items 9 am monday morning. If you sell internationally , the best time for boat parts might me 4 - 6 am est U.S.
