Just saw this ad on television. After a rebate you can get a Dell laptop for $499.00
Well, sort of. That's of course with a 90 day warranty only.
- 3 year warranty is $189.00
Oh, and you don't get a free iPod or printer either so if you want them too...
- 179 iPod mini (4gb)

Why not just buy the $499 Dell, pirate OS X for Intel and get the iLife Suite with it and call it a day?

Because, the Dell is a piece of disposable crap. that's why. Besides, you won't be pirating OS X on any non-Mac for long.

Why is it such a piece of crap? It shares many similar parts as the (in your opinion) non disposable piece of crap ibook (logic board anyone?). It also probably runs OS X quicker than any ibook could dream and is a **** load cheaper.
As far as pirating, how do you know that it won't happen for long? Once the cats out of the bag, there's no going back. People will always find a way around something.

Dont forget to check the shipping price du jour at Dell - they put on specials (Complete system $499! $10 shipping*) and then (* $10 shipping on orders over $600, otherwise $79 - or $129)
Worst case scenario is you buy a $599 system for $668 or a $601 system for $611, shipped

Heh, I see somebody has never used a low-end Dell notebook before. Defending PC notebooks is one thing. Defending Dell's lowest-end garbage is quite another.
You buy that Inspiron and let us know how getting it to run OS X goes.

I will never get a dell or any kind of pc. I HATE windows!!! Absolutely can't stand it. I'm glad I have a mac (iBook)  It's hard to believe I'm saying this, because I'm only 16 years old! lol
